Basketball Exercises – Improve Your Game

It’s no surprise that basketball can be quiet a demanding sport at times. It’s so intense that it’s oftentimes exhausting and overwhelming. Some basketball exercises can literally psych you out mentally by creating mental fears like a coach screaming at you so hard the vain in his neck is about to burst. Misconceptions like this can actually effect how you view a particular basketball exercise and therefore, may stunt your progress in improving in the sport.

One of the central concepts basketball exercises should revolve on is endurance. Endurance is key to ensuring your excellence in the sport. Developing endurance though, is tricky, to say the least. It takes time, patience, diligence, and an extremely strategic approach. In order to build stamina, one of the best ways to build this is to have players run lines over and over again for a certain amount of time. The longer they’re at it, the better.

Another effective tactic in terms of basketball exercises would be dribbling activities. Remember, this is essential for players to have and master and manipulate to work for their advantage since they need this particular skill to get the ball from point A to point B… and hopefully, earn scores for the team. How you can train your players with this is to have them jog around the court dribbling basketballs. This poses an effective challenge because by running around in no certain direction, your focus is zeroed in on properly dribbling the ball and on not colliding with the other players in the court.

Another good basketball exercise is sprinting. It is the most common amongst exercises and drills done or performed by basketball players. With this kind of practice, the coach usually asks the player to stand at the baseline below the hoop. That’s the time that the players would sprint their way to the foul line. They’re supposed to bend down and have their fingers touch the said line before sprinting their way back to the baseline. They do it over and over again until the coach thinks that the frequency or the number of repetitions is enough for the day.

There is one basketball exercise that is especially designed to improve the vertical of basketball players. How this is done is that the player gets hold of any box, step, or any bench that would usually have the same use as that of a chair. It should be both heavy and sturdy enough to support the player’s weight. The player should stand to the left of that object, step on it with his right leg, and step back again to the original position. Then do it again with the other foot. This is one of the basketball exercises that can be easily done at home and at any time.

And lastly, one of the most important aspects of basketball is jumping. Thus, it’s no big surprise that exercises should be specifically designed to target that as well. A straight line should be drawn to the ground with a piece of tape or any efficient marker. Players should stand on either sides of the line and hop horizontally back and forth. They need to jump slightly higher over the line if they want some more bounce in their step. It should be highlighted that the focus for this exercise is smoothness and rhythm and not speed.

Basketballs typically range in size from very small promotional items possibly only a few inches in diameter to extra large balls nearly a foot in diameter used in training exercises to increase the skill of players. The standard size of a basketball in the NBA is 29.5 inches in circumference. Nearly all basketballs have an inflatable inner rubber bladder, generally wrapped in layers of fiber and then covered with a tacky surface made either from leather (traditional), rubber, or a synthetic composite. As in most inflatable balls, there is a small opening to allow the pressure to be increased or decreased. The surface of the ball is nearly always divided by “ribs” that are recessed below the surface of the ball in a variety of configurations and are generally a contrasting color. An orange surface with black ribs and a possible logo is the traditional color scheme of basketballs but they are sold in various colors.
