Basketball Fantasy

More and More we are beginning to see the value in playing the match-ups in fantasy basketball. However, there is one match-up scenario that clearly stands out as one that must be exploited at all costs – THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS.
The Warriors are by far the WORST defensive team in the league. It is amazing how good they are at making everyone look great this year. When you see Golden State as an opponent of one of your fantasy basketball players your eyes should light up, this is a cant miss match-up that should be exploited every time.
Golden State is letting up a league worst 111 points per game. Opponents are shooting a league best 49% against them showing that not only are they giving up ton of points, but teams are getting easy looks. Last night Gilbert Arenas dropped 45 points, the previous game Tim Duncan went for 27 points and 15 rebounds, before that it was Thaddeus Young who went for 26 points and 14 rebounds. The Warriors make good players look like super stars AND make bad players look like super stars too! Even Rodney Stuckey exploded for 29 points and 7 assists last week.
Examining detailed stats from 82games.com, the Warriors are letting opponents shoot 60% from the inside! While it appears everyone is getting into the scoring fun against the Warriors, post players (like Duncan) and slashers (like Arenas and Young) seem to have the best chance of going off against Golden State.
Golden State has a light upcoming schedule over the holiday season. However, there are some games to be played so be sure to get Memphis, New Orleans, and Phoenix players into your lineups as Don Nelson and his Warriors are handing out Holiday presents to all fantasy basketball ballers lucky enough to match-up with his no-defense squad!

Bet the House: How I Gambled Over a Grand a Day for 30 Days on Sports, Poker, and Games of Chance $0.01 Over 30 days in early 2009, Richard Roeper risked more than a quarter-million dollars on practically every method of gambling currently available in America. Bet the House chronicles his wild journey. Follow Roeper as he travels from celebrity-filled Vegas tournaments to podunk dog races, negotiates illegal sports bets with shadowy bookies, trolls overseas-based Internet gaming sites, wagers against a radio comedian, haunts blackjack tables, and flips coins at a bar. As the wins and losses mount, you’ll share his suspense over that next big bet, the one that might, just might, get him back to black by the end of his odyssey. Bet the House also explores:•         What it’s like to bet money you don’t have, knowing that if you lose, you’re in some serious trouble.•         The worst referee’s decision in the NFL in the last decade, and how it cost the author thousands of dollars.•         The time Roeper won more than $20,000 on a single horse race.•         Why the slots are such a bad play, why Roeper hates baccarat, and why state lotteries are worse than any numbers game run by the mob.•         The 10 best gambling movies of all time. The true national pastime isn’t baseball or football or basketball. It’s gambling–on fantasy football, March Madness, poker, slots, the lottery, keno, church raffles, bingo, and more. Bet the House recounts with humor and pride the ultimate thrill ride of one American gambler. |

Films Directed By Gerald Potterton (Study Guide) $8.87 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian animated film from executive producer Leonard Mogel, who was also the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine. With Ivan Reitman producing and Gerald Potterton directing, the work was expedited by having several animation houses working simultaneously on different segments, including CinéGroupe and Atkinson Film-Arts. The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, the film has a great deal of graphic violence, nudity, and sexuality. A sequel titled Heavy Metal 2000 was released in 2000. The movie’s title sequence story (based on the original story by Dan O’Bannon and art by Thomas Warkentin) opens with a space shuttle flying in orbit over Earth. The bay doors (on the belly of the shuttle) open, releasing a 1960 Corvette. An astronaut seated in the Corvette then begins descending through Earth’s atmosphere, landing in a desert canyon. Leading directly from the title sequence, the film’s framing story has the astronaut, named Grimaldi, arriving at home where he is greeted by his daughter. He shows her something he brought back: a crystalline green sphere about the size of a basketball. When he opens the case, the orb rises out of it and painfully melts the astronaut. It introduces itself to the terrified girl as “The sum of all evils.” Looking into it, the girl sees how it has influenced societies through time and space. The orb, known as the Loc-Nar, forces her to watch the remaining stories. Original story by Daniel Goldberg |

The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven $3.19 Sherman Alexie’s critically celebrated first collection, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven established its author as one of America’s most important and provocative voices. Vividly weaving memory, fantasy, and stark reality to paint a portrait of life in and around the Spokane Indian reservation, this book introduces some of Alexie’s most beloved characters who inhabit his distinctive landscape. There is Thomas Builds-the-Fire, the storyteller who no one seems to listen to, and his compatriot—and sometimes not-so-great friend—Victor, the basketball hero who turned into a recovering alcoholic. Now with two new stories and an introduction from Alexie, these twenty-four interlinked tales are narrated by characters raised on humiliation and government-issue cheese, and yet filled with passion and affection, myth and charm. Against a backdrop of alcohol, car accidents, laughter, and basketball, Alexie depicts the distances between Indians and whites, reservation Indians and urban Indians, men and women, and most poetically, modern Indians and the traditions of the past. |
