I read this in another question and it made me think:
I’m an 18 year old white boy. For the past year, I’ve been playing at one of Sacramento’s more…urban…basketball courts. The first game I ever played, I was scared. Why? A bunch of black guys dunking and talking smack. I’m just a white kid. What do I know? I’m not that good.
I think that they dominate that sport so you coming in your instantly like the underdog. It’s like black guys coming into a swim team, where white swimmers are more dominate. Don’t let race take your mind away from the game you love. If you let it intimidate you, your game will suffer. If it takes extra practices or even asking them for tips do it. You might be letting your fears supress a real talent.
