Basketball Fundamentals Dribbling

Basketball is a game that not only demands physical prowess, it requires immense mental thinking as well. You will have to find out ways about how to go past the opposition members and win points for your team. If you are keen on playing basketball then you should take extra care on your dribbling skills as this will get your maximum points. In fact, most coaches spend a considerable amount of time on improving the dribbling skills of the players. It becomes vital for players to continue practicing their dribbling skills and improve their fundamentals.
Players should be extra dedicated to improve the most critical aspect of basketball which is dribbling. The players have to remember that if their dribbling is perfect then they can become the best and the opponents will respect them better. Let’s have a look at some of the vital points in dribbling. The first point is that the player should stay as low as possible while playing. This gives him more control over the ball since they are bending down. This also leads to better hand and eye coordination. However the player should keep his head up while dribbling. This is because he will be able to see the opponents better and can dodge the ball well past them. A very important part of dribbling is that at no time you should be afraid of the opponent players. You should in fact attack them instead of avoiding them.
The whole object of dribbling is to avoid any kid of wasted movement. Remember that if you dribble without reason then you are wasting your time and also allowing other players chances to take control of the ball. You should also dribble with a purpose as that will save your energy. The basketball players should continuously strive to improve their dribbling skills. They should try to improve their weaknesses by taking the coaches’ help. The coach can detect the player’s weakness and help him to improve. He can also find out what are the strong points of the players and then tell them how to make the best use of the strong points. In dribbling, you also learn to protect the ball with your body which makes it difficult for the other players to take the ball away from you. The players should also work on the change of pace as the situation demands.
The defender can be kept away from the ball by changing the speed of the dribbles. All this requires daily practice of several hours and as far as possible professional players should not miss out on their practice sessions. When the player beats the defender with this dribble, he should move ahead while dribbling the basketball. He should then be on the watch out for opponent players in front of him and also team members to whom he can pass the ball. All the while the player should strive to keep the defenders behind them.
