Basketball Lingo

Basketball tips for teen?
i just got into basketball and theres a match in two days. any tips? im not that good. all my shots are based on luck. i dont understand any B-ball lingo especially when my coach uses it. any advice? i get the main idea but im a lil rough on the edges if tht makes any sense heheh…
oh and if ur answer couldnt be so complicated cos im only 13
thanks…
my coach is what i like to call a jack*** he critisizes everyone. he curses alot. his methods of teaching are unconventional and i occasionally think he is the devils advocate…really….
Okay here are some “lingos” hehe
forward- the two positions on the left and right of the basket
wings- the upper part of the box (the box is the lines that look like a rectangle)
Center- the person who stands in the center of the rectangle (box)
Offense-when the ball is in your possesion ( you get the baskets)
defense-when the ball is in the opposing teams possesion
If your coach say to “set a pick” this is what he wants you to do, when someone is guarding a person on your team (usually the person bringing the ball over the court) you run up to the guard and get behind them they will then bump into you and your other teamate can get closer to the basket (warning:don’t move you’ll get a foul when running this play)
If your coach says “match up” or “man to man” that means each person on your team chooses someone to guard and you only guard them
“boxing out” when you as a guard (defense) must stay int a box on the rectangle and whenever someone comes near or in you “box” you block them
if you are near the hoop and you have a lot of players on you shoot anyway because most likely they’ll hit your arm which is a foul ( two shots) I hope this helps!!! If you have any other questions about bball post another question and i’ll be happy to help!! =)
