Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: The Liga ACB, or Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (English: Basketball Clubs’ Association), often abbreviated to the ACB, is the pre-eminent men’s professional basketball league in Spain. It was founded in 1956 with the name of Liga Nacional. The league changed its name to the current one in 1983. The league is rated as one of the three “A” level European national domestic leagues in the ULEB League Rankings system. The ACB League is considered by many to be one of the best and most elite basketball leagues in Europe and even in the whole world. The ACB league, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of 18 teams, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Cajasol, Estudiantes, Joventut Badalona, Caja Laboral Baskonia, Valencia Basket and Unicaja Málaga. Each team has to play all the other teams in its division twice, one at home and one away. This means that in Liga ACB the regular league ends after all teams play 34 matches. Like many other leagues in continental Europe, the Liga ACB takes a winter break once each team has played half of its scheduled matches. One feature of the league that may be unusual to North American observers is that the two halves of the season are played in the same order-that is, the order of each team’s first-half fixtures is repeated in the second half of the season. This is normal in Spanish sports; it is also used by La Liga in association football. At the end of the league, the eight best teams start a play-off, playing the regular season champion with the 8th and so on. There are three rounds

$26.95

In Dick Vitale’s Fabulous 50 Players and Moments in College Basketball: From the Best Seat in the House During My 30 Years at ESPN, America’s self-confessed number one college basketball junkie will go on the record, ranking his players and moments from 1 to 50. His personal pantheon might surprise you. The legends are here, of course. And they deserve to be. Consensus is that these are the greatest of the great. But some of his rankings may be unexpected. Kansas guard Mario Chalmers’ three-point shot to force overtime against Memphis in the 2008 national championship game. Ralph Sampson of Virginia vs. Patrick Ewing of Georgetown in a 1983 reprise of the great showdown between Lew Alcindor and Elvin Hayes in the ’60s. UCLA guard Tyus Edney’s length-of-the-floor dash to glory against Missouri in the 1995 tournament. Michael Jordan’s game winning shot against Georgetown in 1982 during his freshman year at North Carolina. Kentucky’s 31point comeback against LSU in 1994. Cinderella George Mason upsetting Connecticut to make the Final Four in 2006. Every basketball fan has his or her favorites: the perfect player, the magical moments. But only Dick Vitale will go on the record, ranking them 1 through 50, and he’ll do it as much as a fan as a commentator. This is from his heart, naming the top 50 players and moments in the wonderful world of college hoops. It’s awesome, baby.

Howard (March 25, 1909 January 26, 1996) was an American college football player and coach. He played college football for Alabama and was a teammate of legendary coach Bear Bryant. After a career-ending injury, Howard joined the staff at Clemson College and became head coach in 1939. Howard would coach the Clemson Tigers for 30 years, amassing the 15th most wins of any college football coach. He led Clemson to ten bowl games, an undefeated season in 1949, and several Top-20 rankings during his tenure as head coach. During his stay at Clemson, Howard also oversaw the athletic department, ticket sales, and was an assistant coach for the baseball team. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, and the Clemson Ring of Honor. The playing surface at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium is named after him. Howard was born at Barlow Bend, Alabama (“three wagon greasin’s from Mobile”). He spent his early days on the farm playing mostly cow pasture baseball because there were not enough boys around the community for a football team. Howard said he left Barlow Bend walking barefoot on a barbed wire fence with a wildcat under each arm. He graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile where he played football, baseball and basketball and served as president of both the junior and senior classes. After finishing at Murphy, Howard entered the University of Alabama on an academic scholarship provided by the Birmingham News in the fall of 1927, and the 185-pounder played reserve guard his sophomore year. During his junior year he started every game but two, as an ankle injury sidelined him for the two games he missed. Again his senior year he was a regular. Howard was president of the freshman class at Alaba… More:

The author examined the use persuasion, as delineated by Robert Cialdini and associates, and as it pertains to the recruitment process at National Collegiate Athletic Association, Divison II-affiliated men’s basketball programs. The author identified 40 exemplary programs, as evidenced buy their presence in national rankings over the course of the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons of competition, and their effective use of persuasive communication in the recruitment of potential student athletes (PSAs). The head coaches of the targeted programs were contacted requesting participation with the 12-question qualitative research surveys; yielding a 40% participation rate. The hypothesis, that the interpersonal persuasive communication between the coach and the PSA was the most significant factor in the recruitment process, was partially confirmed. However, from the viewpoint of the respondents, the use of persuasion is incidental to the process of establishing and fostering a working relationship with the PSAs.

 Tales from the Missouri Tigers

Tales from the Missouri Tigers

$19.95

College sports fans around the nation know it as the University of Missouri, the home of the Tigers. But for the legions of fans from St. Louis to Columbia, it’s simply Mizzou, and there is simply no better place to be on a crisp fall afternoon than Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium. Don Faurot himself, as a graduate student, helped lay the sod in 1926, and the playing surface was named after the legendary coach in1972. It’s where Norris Stevenson bravely broke the color barrier in the 1950s, where Dan Devine built a national powerhouse in the 1960s and where Al Onofrio pulled some unlikely upsets in the 1970s. Phil Bradley, Kellen Winslow and Eric Wright — household names in college and in the pros — continued to build on that foundation in the early 1980s. Hardworking players such as Corby Jones and Brock Olivo gave the program a new spark in the 1990s. And today, quarterback sensation Brad Smith just may become the best player ever to wear the black and gold. The Tigers had little tradition in basketball until Norm Stewart returned to coach his alma mater in 1967. Big men Al Eberhard and John Brown first put the program on the map in the early 1970s, then Willie Smith electrified crowds at the Hearnes Center with his prolific scoring. Highly regarded recruits Steve Stipanovich and Jon Sundvold were the pillars of a team that won four straight Big Eight championships. Players such as Doug Smith, Anthony Peeler and Derrick Chievous took the Tigers to the top of the national rankings while rewriting the school record books. Coach Quin Snyder has the program right on track as it prepares to move into its state-of-the-art arena. Mizzou fans are passionate about their Tigers. And for generation after generation, Mizzou athletes have shown them how to play the games with determination, passion and heart.
