Basketball Rebounding Drills

basketball drills?
for jumping, shooting, dribling, ball handling, defense, rebounding, etc
For jumping and defense, jump rope. It improves your footwork while building both stamina and your leg muscles.
For dribbling and ball-handling, hold the ball directly in front of your face and bounce it rapidly off a cinderblock wall. Rotate using both hands; then the “off-hand”; then the dominant hand. Real incentive to learn – don’t you think?
For shooting, practice free-throws daily. It’s the same motion and form as your jumpshot. Using a couple of friends, have them bounce pass the ball to you at various spots at various distances from the basket. You could do this drill as a timed one – trying to shoot a certain number of shots in a certain length of time.
For rebounding, there are 3 basic principles you need to remember. 1)Positioning – A)The farther the shot is taken from the basket, the farther the rebound will come off the rim. So don’t allow yourself to get “pinned” underneath the net or behind the backboard. B)The rebound your coach wants you to get is the one that bounces on the floor first. But since most guys want to show EVERYONE that they can “jump out of the gym”, time your jump so that you catch the ball with your arms fully extended at the top of your jump. C)BOX OUT!
Your gluteus maximus is the strongest muscle in your body. Use it to keep your opponent behind you. (And the pun is intended.)
And you’ll play better defense if you realize that you DO NOT have to block your opponents every shot. Stay on the floor! Don’t give up position. Save the block attempts for the closing moments of really close games.
