What’s the deal with the 1998 all-star selections for the West?
Here is the team for the 1998 all-star game:

So my questions are:
* Was the West that weak that Nick Van Exel and Eddie Jones made the all-star team? I have a vague recollection of them and I never thought of them as being all-star material let alone both of them in the same year.
* How did Kobe Bryant make the starting team that year when those aforementioned players actually started ahead of Bryant in 1998 for the Lakers? Was it because the fans enjoyed his high flying theatrics?
