Well it’s mid season in the NBA and it’s time for the NBA All Star Weekend festivities. The biggest draw second behind the All Star game is the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. This one event draws the crowds in person and from around the world as fans want to see their favorite pro basketball stars do the unthinkable when it comes to dunking a basketball.
The 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk contest will be on Saturday February 19th at the Los Angeles Lakers home court inside the Staples Center. The contest always follows the 3 point shooting contest which will be somewhere around an 8:30pm starting time. Like always the contest will be aired on TNT with extra coverage and history of the contest showing before the event begins.
The participants that will be competing for the challenge will be NBA players DeMar DeRozan from the Toronto Raptors, Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers, Serge Ibaka from the Oklahoma City Thunder, and JaVale McGee from the Washington Wizards. Most NBA fans are fully aware of the dunking abilities and talents of Blake Griffin but may not be aware of the other players. Well, during the Slam Dunk contest an unpopular player can become a star overnight.

One thing different that is being added to this year’s slam dunk contest is each contestant will be featured in a special online video series that shows fans how they will be preparing for the dunk contest. The series is entitled, “Sprite Slam Dunk: Countdown to the Contest.” Fans will get an interesting peak into the types of dunks the players will be trying to execute during the competition.
There are a lot of other NBA ballers who the fans would love to see compete in the dunk contest who have not entered it even once. Players like Dwayne Wade and Lebron James who dunk a lot during games have not attempted to compete in this contest. NBA fans would love to see the best players in the league again go at it during a dunk contest like the old warriors like Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins did.
