Any Given Day $10.77 The object of this book,”Any Given Day” is to take the gamble out of sports gambling. The statistical probability system explained in this book is an objective system for both professional football and basketball. There is no guess work as the system is based on simple math and statistics. The system was developed in the early 1950′s while working with my father who taught physics and calculus in college. Coming together, a mining and civil engineer and a teacher, coach and athletic director, the system has been refined and brought up to date for todays sports.February 6, 1005 which was Super Bowl XXXIX the exact score was predicted by the system, New England 24 and Philadelphia 21. Because of this, I was called gifted in Las Vegas. There are many games listed in the book that pick the exact score. How about week 10 played November 10, 2002 between Atlanta and Pittsburg. The system picked the game to be a tie. I called the game at 24 Atlanta and 24 Pittsburg. That became the final score after overtime. No game had ended in a tie for many years, and until this year, 2008, there had been no other. This book is much more than just the winning football and basketball system as it covers sports gaming rules, sports talk, the type of wagers, and which to use and which to stay away from using. This is a real love novel because with one $10.00 two team parlay bet you will almost double the price you paid for this book. The chapter, Beyond Stupidity, is enlightening as it gives the reader an inside look at the coaching world. A mistake by a coach can cause a loss, Where as, a mistake by a player may not. You will see why coaches are finally being paid more money than in the early years of pro sports.Money Management is a very important chaper for any phase of life. Remember “Pigs get fat, and hogs get slaughtered”. Self-discipline, self-control and mental strength is a large part of money management. Here is where we will talk about a |

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: The Liga ACB, or Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (English: Basketball Clubs’ Association), often abbreviated to the ACB, is the pre-eminent men’s professional basketball league in Spain. It was founded in 1956 with the name of Liga Nacional. The league changed its name to the current one in 1983. The league is rated as one of the three “A” level European national domestic leagues in the ULEB League Rankings system. The ACB League is considered by many to be one of the best and most elite basketball leagues in Europe and even in the whole world. The ACB league, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of 18 teams, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Cajasol, Estudiantes, Joventut Badalona, Caja Laboral Baskonia, Valencia Basket and Unicaja Málaga. Each team has to play all the other teams in its division twice, one at home and one away. This means that in Liga ACB the regular league ends after all teams play 34 matches. Like many other leagues in continental Europe, the Liga ACB takes a winter break once each team has played half of its scheduled matches. One feature of the league that may be unusual to North American observers is that the two halves of the season are played in the same order-that is, the order of each team’s first-half fixtures is repeated in the second half of the season. This is normal in Spanish sports; it is also used by La Liga in association football. At the end of the league, the eight best teams start a play-off, playing the regular season champion with the 8th and so on. There are three rounds |

Basketball on Paper: Rules and Tools for Performance Analysis $18.95 Journey “inside the numbers” for an exceptional set of statistical tools and rules that can help explain the winning, or losing, ways of a basketball team. Basketball on Paper doesn’t diagram plays or explain how players get in shape, but instead demonstrates how to interpret player and team performance. Dean Oliver highlights general strategies for teams when they’re winning or losing and what aspects should be the focus in either situation. He describes and quantifies the jobs of team leaders and role players, then discusses the interactions between players and how to achieve the best fit. Oliver conceptualizes the meaning of teamwork and how to quantify the value of different types of players working together. He examines historically successful NBA teams and identifies what made them so successful: individual talent, a system of putting players together, or good coaching. Oliver then uses these statistical tools and case studies to evaluate the best players in history, such as Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, and Charles Barkley and how they contributed to their teams’ success. He does the same for some of the NBA’s “oddball” players-Manute Bol, Muggsy Bogues, and Dennis Rodman and for the WNBA’s top players.Basketball on Paper is unique in its incorporation of business and analytical concepts within the context of basketball to measure the value of players in a cooperative setting. Whether you’re looking for strategies or new ideas to throw out while watching the ballgame at a sports bar, Dean Oliver’sBasketball on Paper will give you amazing new insights into teamwork, coaching, and success. |

Craven represented Great Britain in wheelchair basketball at five editions of the Paralympic Games, from 1972 to 1988. He also competed in track and field athletics and swimming at the 1972 Games. He won gold at the wheelchair basketball World Championships in 1973, and bronze in 1975, as well two gold medals (1971, 1974) and a silver (1993) at the European Championships. He also won gold at the European Champions Cup in 1994, and gold at the Commonwealth Games in 1970. In 1980, alongside Horst Strohkendl and Stan Labanowich, Craven played a vital role in the development of a new classification system for wheelchair basketball athletes. Wheelchair basketball rejected its medically-based classification system consisting of 3 classes, a system that was founded upon principles that forced athletes to depend on medical examinations. This progress lead to a new 4-class functional system, which was democratically voted in 1982. Due to this, wheelchair basketball was increasingly associated with sport as opposed to medicine and rehabilitation, |

James Mitchum IV, owner of the Houston Tornadoes, wondered about that very same thing. While sitting in his office, he knew that a plan needed to be devised to change the system. Why is he cutting a check to a guy who hasn’t even played a game? Why is he paying a player for potential? What if that player doesn’t live up to that potential, can he get his money back? The answer to his dilemma is buried somewhere between the pages of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. After reading that document from stem to stern, he finds his answer, and he devises a plan to change the pay structure for the NBA players. The players won’t like it, but so what? |

There is a need to determine if the professionals within the athletic training profession are confident in identifying, seeking treatment and educating female athletes who may be at risk for female athlete triad syndrome. A random sample of 1,000 certified athletic trainers were selected. The participants were sent an email containing a link to an online survey using the OPINIO system through the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The survey contained 8 demographic questions and 17 Likert style confidence questions. The demographic questions related to gender, age, years of certification, education level, job setting and sport assignments. After three weeks of an open online survey the participants who did not respond were sent a paper copy to their mailing address provided. The survey was analyzed using a total confidence score. Each confidence question was in Likert scoring format ranging from 1 to 6. The highest confidence score possible for the entire questionnaire was 102. The results showed a significant difference in confidence scores between male and female certified athletic trainers ( p < .05). Certified athletic trainers who had a doctorate had significantly higher confidence scores (p < .05) than those who did not. Have We Lost Our Common Sense? $6 We as a people of a proud and historic nation have watched as our economy was fractured badly during the 2001 period through 2009. The lust for big power and wealth has caused some leaders of government, business, and religion to have more ambition to achieve their own personal success than to care about those persons they are responsible in leading and protecting. Our political system has lost the ability or desire to have bi-partisan teamwork to make the quality of life better for our children and grandchildren. My goal is to get us to seek and find solutions to problems and not just whine and gripe among ourselves for self gain. I am a small town boy from Kentucky who was fortunate to get to go to college on a basketball scholarship. My college education may not have been possible without athletics. Three years as a young Marine Corps Officer gave me an opportunity to see life from another vantage point. Forty years as an Executive in the Auto Industry and an opportunity to live in eleven different states and one territory and raise a family of five gave me another good perspective on life. This book has been born from the memories and actual experiences I have enjoyed from relationships and friendships with many interesting personalities from Baseball Great Roberto Clemente to former Governor George Nigh of Oklahoma to many top executives in industry. I have seen the “Good, the Bad” and even the Ugly” of life. Fortunately I have seen so many good and kind people that the bad and the ugly have been overcome. |

He was professor of Landscape Engineering at Syracuse University, where he established the school’s lacrosse program, and later became the President of New England College. On September 7, 1910, Cox married Gretchen Smith. Cox was one of the leading landscape architects in the country. Following Harvard, Cox worked for four years with the Los Angeles Parks Department. While working with the Los Angeles Parks Department he designed the exterior landscape of both the Lincoln Park and Griffith Park, and called for a city parkway that would “add to the health and happiness of its citizens.” His plan was only partially implemented. In 1915, Cox, funded by John D. Rockefeller, performed the first census of trees in New York City. In his report, A Street Tree System for New York City, Borough of Manhattan, Cox found that most street trees in Manhattan to be in bad condition. Part of his recommendation was to plant 200 trees per square mile on the island. Cox advocated for a new kind of park in the U.S. National Park system that balanced the need for recreation and preservation. In 1934, Cox surveyed Vermont’s Green Mountains in order to create a National Park in the State. Cox’s vision of the Green Mountain Parkway… More: |

Mo: The Life and Times of Morris K. Udall $17.95 Everybody liked Mo. Throughout his political life— and especially during his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1976— thousands of people were drawn to Arizona congressman Morris K. Udall by his humor, humanity, and courage. This biography traces the remarkable career of the candidate who was “too funny to be president” and introduces readers to Mo the politician, Mo the environmentalist, and Mo the man. Journalists Donald Carson and James Johnson interviewed more than one hundred of Udall’s associates and family members to create an unusually rich portrait. They recall Udall’s Mormon boyhood in Arizona when he lost an eye at age six, his service during World War II, his brief career in professional basketball, and his work as a lawyer and county prosecutor, which earned him a reputation for fairness and openness. Mo provides the most complete record of Udall’s thirty-year congressional career ever published. It reveals how he challenged the House seniority system and turned the House Interior Committee into a powerful panel that did as much to protect the environment as any organization in the twentieth century. It shows Udall to have been a consensus builder for environmental issues who paved the way for the Alaska Lands Act of 1980, helped set aside 2.4 million acres of wilderness in Arizona, and fought for the Central Arizona Project, one of the most ambitious water projects in U.S. history. Carson and Johnson record Udall’s early opposition to the Vietnam War at a time when that conflict was largely perceived as a just cause, as well as his early advocacy of campaign finance reform. They also provide a behind-the-scenes account of his run for the presidency— the first House member to seek the office in nearly a century— which gained him an intensely loyal national following. Mo explores the paradoxes that beset Udall: He was a man able to accomplish things politically because people genuinely liked and |

Optimizing Strength Training:Designing Nonlinear Perioztn Wrkouts $7.75 The strength training strategy of linear periodization has long been recognized as an efficient system of resistance training. But—until now—no one had researched and explored the potential benefits of a nonlinear periodization training program. Authors William Kraemer and Steven Fleck delve into nonlinear, or undulating, periodization to examine how it can result in long-term fitness and performance gains by adding more variety to workouts and optimizing each training session. In doing so, Dr. Kraemer and Dr. Fleck pioneer this newest periodization training technique and have become the leading proponents of this unique training method. Their innovative approach to strength training is shown to facilitate the training process and enhance performance, a fact Dr. Kraemer has demonstrated in several ongoing studies with basketball teams at the University of Connecticut. Optimizing Strength Training: Designing Nonlinear Periodization Workouts explains how nonlinear periodization works and then demonstrates how to create nonlinear periodization training programs, including programs for special populations. Readers will learn that by creating different workouts for each day, they can emphasize exclusive training styles in every workout to maximize adaptation as well as ensure adequate recovery from the rigors of training. Fitness professionals and coaches will discover that this unique training style reduces the boredom encountered when using similar workout protocols for two to four weeks at a time and therefore lends itself to creating a more satisfied client base. Using practical and user-friendly terms, the authors provide the knowledge required for understanding nonlinear periodization and training principles, selecting acute program variables, and discerning the practical considerations of nonlinear periodization before undertaking training. They also provide sample workouts using nonlinear |

Optimum Performance Training: Play Like a Pro with the Ultimate Custom Workout Used by NBA Players and Teams $17.95 Micheal Clark virtually wrote the book that personal trainers all over the country use to gain their certification in the field. As creator of the Optimum Performance Training system, he took personal training to a whole new level by introducing a program that could be fully customized for any sport. In this book, Clark will enable readers through his “self–assessment and design fitness system” to effectively pinpoint the weaknesses in their basketball skills and tailor a workout program that will improve on all the flaws in their game. By taking advantage of skill–specific tests, readers will be able to focus their workout time on the area they most need and will see quick results. This user–friendly guide begins with a simple five–step assessment to help you realize what your game lacks. Whether you want explosiveness off the first step like Lebron James, the iron–man endurance of Steve Nash, the coordination and flexibility of Kevin Garnett, the vertical leap of Vince Carter, or the muscle strength of Amare Stoudemire, you’ll pinpoint your deficiencies and benefit from the exact same workout that Clark uses for the NBA’s biggest stars. Clark’s revolutionary approach to fitness and conditioning personalizes the workouts not only by sport, but also by performance skills, and will help you become the best basketball player you can be. |

Excerpt: The NOFV-Oberliga Mitte was the third tier of the German football league system in the central states of former East Germany and West-Berlin. The league existed from 1991 to 1994. It covered the German states of Berlin, Brandenburg and Sachsen-Anhalt. The NOFV-Oberliga Mitte was formed in 1991 when, along with the political reunion of Germany, the former East German football league system was integrated into the German one. The abbreviation NOFV stands for Nord-Ostdeutscher Fussball Verband, meaning North East German Football Association. Along with this league, two other NOFV-Oberligas were formed, the NOFV-Oberliga Nord and the NOFV-Oberliga Süd. Unlike the other two leagues who had 18 clubs, the Mitte-division started out with 20 clubs. The league was formed from clubs from six different leagues: Two clubs from the Oberliga Nordost, the former DDR-Oberliga, six clubs from the NOFV-Liga A and B, the former East German second division, one club from the Bezirksliga East-Berlin, one of the regional leagues of the old East German third league level, one from the Verbandsliga Brandenburg, a new league, and ten clubs from the Amateur-Oberliga Berlin, the West-German third division for the city of Berlin. The league accommodated therefore a wide mix of clubs from the east and west of Germany. It was also the first time since 1950 that clubs from East- and West-Berlin played in the same league. The league became one of the then ten Oberligas in the united Germany, the third tier of league football. Its champion was however not directly promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga but had to take part in a promotion… More: |

Rebound!: Basketball, Busing, Larry Bird, and the Rebirth of Boston $25 The city of Boston was founded in 1630 on the principles of freedom and liberty, and over the next three centuries, the “city on a hill” was a leading force in the struggle to preserve those freedoms. The Boston Celtics basketball franchise was founded in 1946 as a charter member of the National Basketball Association, and over the next thirty years, the team won a record thirteen NBA championships.During the decade of the 1970s, these two storied legacies-liberty and basketball-began to crumble in the streets of Boston and on the parquet floor of the Boston Garden. The 1974 decision ordering the forced busing of students to desegregate the Boston schools sparked a firestorm that had been building for decades. The Boston School Committee had perpetuated an imbalanced and failing educational system that existed in opposition to the principles of the Constitution and the Supreme Court, and the courts intended to rectify that in the course of just a few months’ time. This perceived affront to a community’s right of self-determination led to bitter opposition in many neighborhoods. Protests and boycotts went unheeded, and a virtual police state was instituted on the streets and in the schools. The city was polarized. In April 1976, the brutal attack on an African-American attorney by white students-using as a weapon a flagpole bearing the American flag-was the symbolic culmination of the turmoil that was engulfing the city. When Bill Russell retired from basketball in 1969, it represented a changing of the guard in the Celtic family. The Hall of Fame center (and coach since 1966) had formed the cornerstone of eleven championship teams, and with his departure apiece of the Celtic mystique went with him. In 1970, Boston had its first losing record since before Red Auerbach arrived as coach in 1950. Although the Russell-less franchise managed to secure two more titles in the decade, Celtic Pride took a major hit with dreadful finishes in 1978 |

The Only Dance in Iowa: A History of Six-Player Girls’ Basketball $18.95 Iowa six-player girls’ basketball was the most successful sporting activity for girls in American history, at its zenith involving more than 70 percent of the girls in the state. The state tournament was so popular—regularly drawing fifteen thousand fans, more than the boys’ tourney—that officials declined a lucrative broadcasting offer from ABC’s Wide World of Sports rather than forfeit the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union’s control of the game. The Only Dance in Iowa chronicles the one-hundred-year history of this Iowa tradition, long a symbol of the state’s independence and the people’s rural pride. Max McElwain shows how, well before the passage of Title IX in 1972, Iowa six-player girls’ basketball was, as Sports Illustrated gushed, “a utopia for girls’ athletics.” He also demonstrates how, ironically enough, the fallout from Title IX in many ways led to six-girl basketball’s demise. Through interviews, careful ethnography, and detailed historical analysis, McElwain exposes the intricate political, sociological, and historical dynamics of this cultural phenomenon. His book reveals how six-girl basketball, flourishing with the passionate support of Iowa’s small towns, school districts, and media, came to represent the state’s strong traditional beliefs and the public school system’s determination to maintain its identity in the face of national educational trends. The Only Dance in Iowa is as much a study of this disappearing culture as of the game it claimed as its own. |

Is any part of the ‘ideal’ of college sports salvageable? Andrew Zimbalist’s book makes a valuable contribution for the consideration of that question.”–Bob Costas”In the straightforward, analytical manner that is the trademark of his work, Zimbalist clarifies the contradictions inherent in the paradoxical marriage between higher education and big-time college athletics. He challenges the NCAA to come to grips with some of the less appealing by-products of the organization’s phenomenal growth and success.”–Billy Hunter, executive director, National Basketball Players Association”It’s impossible to read this unsparing examination of the tension between the noble ideals of the academy and the base reality of the athletic-industrial complex that the academy has created, and not wonder: Why do we put up with it?”–Alexander Wolff, senior writer with Sports Illustrated, coauthor of Raw Recruits”Zimbalist has executed a masterful analysis of how and why colleges and universities have increasingly commercialized athletic programs. He unmasks the dichotomy of the ‘student-athlete’ and reveals the reality and shortcomings of their compensation systems. His insightful look at the economic and government pressures compounding this schizophrenic system and his recommendations for either changing it or more effectively coping make for ‘must’ reading by any student or fan of sports.”–Donna A. Lopiano, Ph.D., Executive Director, Women’s Sports Foundation”Through hard-headed investigation, detailed analysis, and lively storytelling, Andrew Zimbalist confirms the truth about major college athletics: that commercial motives and rewards give lie to the very ideals that define higher education.
