Bizarre Life Story Foretold In Ricky Williams Documentary
Ricky Williams’ biography has been bizarre ever since the Heisman Trophy-winning running back entered the NFL in 1998. He has been labeled an enigmatic oddball with erratic behavior who has wasted opportunities. Williams has been captivating in many ways, ways of which could be comparably good, considering a league populated with wife-beating wide receivers. Apparently, he is good enough to be the top topic of the latest installment of ESPN’s “30 for 30″ series called “Run Ricky Run,” which premieres at 5 p.m. eastern time Tuesday.
The biography of Ricky Williams
Ricky Williams’ biography recalls his bizarre entry into the NFL. To get Williams in the draft, New Orleans head coach Mike Ditka traded away all his 1999 picks and the first and second 2000 NFL draft picks. This movement made William the first and only player who has been the sole draft pick of an NFL team. Hip hop star Master P was who he hired to be his agent, a agent who negotiated a contract that many still believe cheated Williams out of millions in extra cash. Ditka was eventually fired and Williams was traded off to the Dolphins, where he led the NFL in rushing with 1,853 yards in 2002.
Ricky Williams – the ‘retirement’
In 2003, after being tested positive for marijuana for the umpteenth time, Williams faced a $ 650,000 fine and four-game suspension by the NFL to start the 2004 season. Instead, he walked away from tens of millions of dollars and announced his retirement. With Williams gone, the Dolphins went 4-12 in 2004. He studied holistic medicine as he bounced around the world for a year. After returning to the game of football and the Dolphins in 2005, he faced another suspension for the 2006 season when he tested positive again. Prohibited from playing in the NFL, Williams spent a season in the Canadian Football League, earning a decent pay day carrying the ball for the Toronto Argonauts.
Ricky Williams and social anxiety disorders
For the most part, Williams kept to himself. He was known for conducting post-game interviews while wearing his helmet, along with a tinted visor, and avoiding eye contact. He later was diagnosed with clinical depression and social anxiety disorder. Williams was briefly a spokesperson for the drug Paxil a treatment for the disorder. Williams eventually quit Paxil claiming the drug did not agree well with his diet. He said in an interview with ESPN that “Marijuana is 10 times better for me than Paxil.” In 2007, Williams was allowed back to the NFL after eventually agreeing to a strict drug testing regimen.
‘Run Ricky Run’
After Ricky Williams retired from the Dolphins in 2004, he asked Sean Pamphilon, who had produced four features on the running back over six years with ESPN and Fox, to tell his story. According to Chris Jenkins of the San Diego Union Tribune, Pamphilon quit his full-time producing job to document the life of Ricky Williams. Over five years, he had sessions with family members, Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown, former teammates and coaches and media who have covered and criticized him during his career. The result: the “Run Ricky Run” documentary.
Ricky Williams: what’s next?
For the present time, Williams is making some money now by playing with the Miami Dolphins in his final year of the $ 8 million contract. He is also majoring in premed with plans to become an osteopath. He told the Associated Press that he is “unsure” about whether he’ll continue playing football past 2010. “There’s a very good chance it could be, but I’m not sure,” said the 33-year-old running back. “My body is probably the single biggest factor in the decision. If you can’t be 100 percent, you can’t do it.” Williams is 900 yards shy of Larry Csonka’s Dolphins rushing record. His contract ends after the 2010 season. Given the patterns of his life so far, what he chooses to do is anybody’s guess.

1960 In Sports $26.9 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The 1960 Canadian Football League season is considered to be the 7th season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 3rd Canadian Football League season. The IRFU changed its name to become the Eastern Football Conference. The CFL allowed unlimited blocking on interception returns. The Calgary Stampeders moved into McMahon Stadium on Monday, August 15, after it took only 103 days to be built. On September 14, four of the six directors of the Montreal Alouettes abruptly resigned their positions. The resignations of Lucien Beauregard, Morgan N. Johnston, David C. McConnell and W. Heard Wert left only owner-president Ted Workman and general manager-coach Perry Moss on the board. Rosters were reduced from 40 players to 34 on September 15. Ottawa’s Ron Stewart rushed for 287 yards on 16 carries in a game in Montreal against the Alouettes on Monday, October 10. He rushed for four touchdowns, one in each quarter, on runs of 39, 51, 51 and 37 yards. He broke the single-game record of 217 yards held previously by Hamilton’s Gerry McDougall. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers honored their 11-year veteran guard with “Buddy Tinsley Night” at half-time during their Thursday, October 13, 1960 game versus the BC Lions. The Winnipeg crowd of 16,773 was delighted when Tinsley lined up at fullback and took a hand-off from quarterback Kenny Ploen over from the BC one-yard line for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. At league meetings during Grey Cup week, Western teams dropped their insistence on sharing in the lucrative television rights payments received by the Big Four (Eastern) teams as a condition of accepting an interlocking schedule. It was agreed to begin a partially interlocking schedule in 1961, with travel costs to be offset by an… More: |

Excerpt: Bizarre Bizarre was a weekly Canadian TV sketch comedy series, airing from 1980 to 1985. The show was hosted by John Byner , and produced by CTV at the CFTO Glen-Warren Studios in suburban Toronto. The series contained slapstick sketches, monologues, TV parodies, and performances by guest stand-up comics. Byner’s interactions with members of the studio audience, or with show producer Bob Einstein (who often came in to halt a sketch midway through), provided an early example of removing the fourth wall . Much of the humour on the show was considered risque during the original run of the series. The series utilized a rotating ensemble of supporting actors who backed Byner up in his sketches. Besides Einstein this group included Billy Van , Billy Barty , and Wayne and Shuster alumnus Tom Harvey.Versions Two versions of the show were produced: episodes that aired on the Showtime |

Excerpt: The approach to offense in American and Canadian football has splintered and evolved in the 100 years in which the modern form of the sport has existed. Many philosophies exist about deploying a team’s 11 players. A smash mouth offense is the more traditional style of offense. It often results in a higher time of possession by running the ball heavily. So-called “smash-mouth football” is often run out of the I-formation or wishbone, with tight ends and receivers used as blockers. Though the offense is run-oriented, pass opportunities can develop as defenses play close to the line. Play-action can be very effective for a run-oriented team. Used to describe the run-heavy offenses such as run by Woody Hayes of Ohio State University in the 1950s and 1960s. A quarterback under Hayes would often throw fewer than 10 passes a game. Hayes is credited as saying “Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad”. This is a grind-it-out ball control offense that relies on time of possession and high percentage inside running off of handoffs to advance the ball down the field. Hayes relied primarily on the fullback off-tackle play. The basic running philosophy employed by the Green Bay Packers under coach Vince Lombardi. The central two plays in this philosophy are off-tackle run and the so-… More: |

Arena Football $49 Arena Football is a variety of Gridiron football. It is a proprietary game played indoors on a smaller field than American or Canadian outdoor football, resulting in a faster and higher-scoring game. The sport was invented in 1981, and patented in 1987, by James F. Foster, Jr., a former executive of the National Football League and the United States Football League. Though not the only variant of indoor football, it is the most widely known, and the one on which most other forms of modern indoor football are at least partially based. Two leagues have played under the official arena football rules: the Arena Football League, which played 22 seasons from 1987 through 2009 and arenafootball2, which was founded in 2000. Arena Football 1, is the league’s new name, confederation of former AFL and af2 teams that plans to begin play in 2010, will also presumably follow the official arena football rulebook. |

During a training session, he shattered his right kneecap kicking a ball and it took over two years before he was fit to play again. In 1950, English conscription laws forced Bradley to choose between working in the government coal mines or entering the military when he turned nineteen. Bradley chose to work in the coal mines at Easington Colliery. In addition to working in the mine, Bradley continued to play football. While he began his career as a forward with Sunderland, the injury slowed Bradley and he moved into defense. Bradley signed with Bradford Park Avenue in 1955 then in 1957, he moved to Carlisle United where he eventually played 130 games, scoring 3 goals. In 1963, Bradley receive… More: |

Canadian Football $14.14 Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Canadian football is a form of gridiron football played almost exclusively in Canada in which two teams of 12 players each compete for territorial control of a field of play 110 yards (101 m) long and 65 yards (59 m) wide attempting to advance a pointed prolate spheroid ball into the opposing team’s scoring area (end zone). In Canada, the term football usually refers to Canadian football and American football collectively, or either sport specifically, depending on the context. The two sports have shared origins and are closely related, but with significant differences. Rugby football in Canada had its origins in the early 1860s, and over time, the unique game known as Canadian football developed. Both the Canadian Football League (CFL), the sport’s top professional league, and Football Canada, the governing body for amateur play, trace their roots to 1884 and the founding of the Canadian Rugby Football Union. Currently active teams such as the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have similar longevity. The CFL is the most popular and only major professional Canadian football league. Its championship game, the Grey Cup, is the country’s single largest sporting event and is watched by nearly half of Canada’s population. Canadian football is also played at the high school, junior, collegiate, and semi-professional levels: the Canadian Junior Football League and Quebec Junior Football League are leagues for players aged 18-22, many post-secondary institutions compete in Canadian Interuniversity Sport for the Vanier Cup, and senior leagues such as the Alberta Football League have grown in popularity in recent years. Great achievements in Canadian football are enshrined in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Other organizations across Canada perform senior league Canadian football during the summer. The first documented gridiron football match was a game played at University |

Canadian Soccer League (1987-1992) $48.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The original Canadian Soccer League was a semi-professional football that was operated in Canada during the summer from 1987 and 1992. It was a nationwide league as it included franchises from all parts of the country. The CSL was formed in the aftermath of Canada’s participation in the 1986 World Cup finals tournament held in Mexico. Canada was an oddity as a country whose association was able to qualify a team despite not having a domestic professional league, or even a domestically based professional team with the demise in 1984 of the North American Soccer League. Founding league commissioner Dale Barnes voiced sentiment aptly when he said the league is to “bring our players home.” The league gained a leap in creditibility when an agreement was reached with The Sports Network to broadcast a CSL Game of the Week, allowing a nationwide audience view a game on domestic cable TV each Sunday evening. Broadcasts featured play-by-play commentator Vic Rauter and analyst Graham Leggat. The league received sponsorship from Air Canada, Foster’s Lager, Hyundai, and Gatorade. |

Excerpt: Marvin Daniel Levy (born August 3, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois) is a former American and Canadian Football coach and front office executive. He is a former professional football coach, in the CFL as head coach of the Montreal Alouettes (19731977), and in the NFL as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs (19781982) and the Buffalo Bills (19861997), coaching the Bills to four consecutive American Football Conference Championships. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Levy’s family emigrated from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His father, a decorated World War I veteran, ran a small business on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, USA. He graduated from South Shore High School in Chicago, in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Forces and spent the remainder of World War II in the military; Levy was discharged from the army shortly afterwards. Though he was known to use historical examples to inspire his teams, Levy corrected those who used war and combat metaphors to describe football games by telling them that he actually fought in a war and that football and war were in no way comparable. Levy enrolled at Coe College in Iowa. There he earned varsity letters in football, track, and basketball. He obtained a degree in English literature, was granted membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and was twice voted student council president. He was also a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was admitted to Harvard University for graduate studies in 1951, earning a masters degree in English history. His first coaching job was at St. Louis Country Day School, coaching football and basketball. Two years later, Levy returned to Coe College as an assistant football coach (19531954). In 1954, he joined the coachin… More: |

Condredge Holloway $48 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Condredge Holloway (born January 24, 1954 in Huntsville, Alabama) was a star quarterback for the University of Tennessee and later in the Canadian Football League. Surprisingly, football wasn’t Holloway’s favourite sport; he preferred baseball. After starring as a high school player at Lee High School in Huntsville, he was drafted as a shortstop by the Montreal Expos in 1971; Holloway was Montreal’s first pick, and he was the fourth player selected overall. However, Holloway’s mother, insisting her son attend college, refused to sign the contract (Condredge was 17, too young to sign a contract under Alabama law) and instead he went to Tennessee. In so doing Holloway became the first African-American to start at the quarterback position in an SEC school. |

Internally, it looks over national amateur club championships for both National Senior Men and Senior Women, U-18, U-16 and U-14 (all levels boys and girls). Provincial and municipal associations are responsible for organizing most amateur leagues and refereeing appointments. The founding meeting of the Dominion of Canada Football Association took place on May 24, 1912. The organization joined FIFA in 1913. In 1928, the FA resigned from FIFA until 1946, following the example of British associations in a dispute over broken time payments to amateur players. The Association has hosted three FIFA tournaments, the FIFA U-17 World Cup Canada 1987, the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2002, and the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007.
