Curling Stick For Hair

curling stick for hair

Here’s the scenario…

You’ve booked a hair appointment at an upscale salon for an important event.  You decide to have your hair professionally flat ironed because there are quire a few people you want to impress.  Looking at the prices charged, these stylists MUST know what they’re doing.  At your appointment, you notice that the stylist has started to blow dry and flat iron your hair on very high heat.  Well, we want it straight right?  Next, you notice that you haven’t caught sight of any type of heat protectant applied to your hair.  Hmmm, maybe you missed it.  Finally, the stylist tells you that by passing the flat iron through the hair over and over and over will ensure the style lasts.  Your appointment is over, your hair is swinging and you feel great.  Walking down the street you start to wonder, “what is that burnt smell?”

Heat damage is just another type of damage caused to our luxurious strands and is probably the easiest to prevent.  It’s all about using proper precautions and techniques when using heat in hair.  Address the situation quickly and correctly or your hair will continue to take a turn for the worse until you have to take dramatic action.

Recognizing heat damage

  • Hair texture fails to come back.  This is most recognizable in individuals who do not have a bone straight relaxer or have no relaxer at all.  Once you wash the hair, your hair should curl back up with either your original texture or some type of texture if you’re mildly relaxed.  If you notice pieces of hair that are stick straight, chances are that these sections have been damaged by heat.
  • Hair ends are fried and split.  This is common with all types of damage.
  • Very rough, dry and dull hair.  This is due to the extreme heat zapping moisture from your hair.

Avoid Heat Damage

  • Using heat appliances on a daily basis is not recommended.  Try roller setting instead.
  • Always apply a heat protectant to hair prior to using a heat styling tool
