Hockey Puck History

Have you ever been hockey wrong???
Inspired by Bob’s Homer question.
My preferred hockey subject is not a team, but hockey history. I read so many stats and history about so many old players and teams, I often get my wires crossed, and I am enormously wrong. I blame it on getting older.
This is my embarrassing wrong tidbit: I once was in a heated conversation about the Lightning winning the Stanley Cup. I kept saying the Flyers, instead of the Flames, when talking about the finals. I was saying things like, “Iginla pretty much doubled the rest of the Flyers in points.” It was pretty funny, because this guy figured I was a total homer, puck bunny fake. Oh, well, maybe he was right. Lol.
When have you been extremely hockey wrong?
Mrs. C: lamo. *tears rolling down my face* You better stop because you are digging a hole way to deep. lol.
Oh, when am I never wrong?
I always say something mixed up that sounds incredibly stupid.
I was at a Rangers game once and kept calling ‘Marc Staal’ ‘Eric Staal’ and this guy eventually yelled at me. I know the difference, but sometimes I’m just dumb.
And not to sound like the ‘Homer’ NIPS likes to call me….but, I’ve ocassionally got ‘Petr Sykora’s and ‘Sydor’s name mixed up and I’ve been called an idiot.
Also, once when I was refering to the Avs I said the ‘Colorado Rockies.’ LOL
*** Oh, yeah. Today some guy asked me where I was last night and I told him I was watching a ‘Habs vs. Montreal’ game.
Guy: Habs vs. Montreal?
Me: That’s what I said.
Guy: Hahaha…ok. How did that go?
Me: Eh, ok. Montreal lost.
Guy: Lost to themself?
Me: What are you talking about?
Guy: What are YOU talking about?
Me: I said Montreal lost.
Guy: Well, you just told me Montreal lost to the Habs.
**Apparently I can still make people laugh. Maybe I would have laughed at myself too if I hadn’t been so embarrassed at the moment. =b

Excerpt: 1929 30 Boston Bruins The 1929 30 Boston Bruins season was the Bruins’ sixth season in the NHL . In defending its American Division title for the second straight season, the Bruins took advantage of new rules and its powerhouse lineup to record the best single season winning percentage in NHL history – a record which still stands. However, the club failed to defend its Stanley Cup title, losing in the finals to the Montreal Canadiens . Regular season 1929 30 NHL season To combat low scoring – the previous season had the fewest goals per game recorded before or thereafter – a major rule change was implemented. Players were now allowed forward passing in the offensive zone , instead of only in the defensive and neutral zones. This led to abuse: players sat in front of the opposing net waiting for a pass, and goals scored nearly tripled league-wide. The rule was changed again mid-season in December 1929, and players were no longer allowed to enter the offensive zone before the puck, thus giving |

Rob Ramage $94.99 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Robert George “Rob” Ramage (born January 11, 1959) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota North Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers. He also played one season in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Birmingham Bulls. Ramage was selected first overall by the Colorado Rockies in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his junior career with the London Knights, who have since retired his number 5, and also played a season in the WHA for the Birmingham Bulls. In his rookie season with Colorado, Ramage became a part of history. While the Rockies were playing the New York Islanders, the Rockies’ goaltender left the ice for an extra skater after a delayed penalty was called on the Islanders. The puck deflected off the chest protector of Islanders goalie Billy Smith into the corner. |

Searching for Bobby Orr $24.95 The book that hockey fans have been waiting for: the definitive, unauthorized account of the man many say was the greatest player the game has ever seen. The legend of Bobby Orr is one of the most enduring in sport. Even those who have never played the game of hockey know that the myth surrounding Canada’s great pastime originates in places like Bobby Orr’s Parry Sound. In the glory years of the Original Six – an era when the majority of NHLers were Canadian – hockey players seemed to emerge fully formed from our frozen rivers and backyard rinks, to have found the source of their genius somehow in the landscape. Like Mozart, they just appeared – Howie Morenz, Gordie Howe, Maurice Richard and Bobby Orr – spun out of the elements, prodigies, geniuses, originals, to stoke the fantasy of a nation united around a puck.Bobby Orr redefined the defensive style of hockey; there was nothing like it before him. He was the first to infuse the defenseman position with offensive juice, driving up the ice, setting up players and scoring some goals of his own. He was the first player to win three straight MVP awards, the first defenseman to score twenty or more goals in a season. His most famous goal won the Boston Bruins the Stanley Cup in 1970 – for the first time in twenty-nine years – against the St. Louis Blues in overtime. But history will also remember Bobby Orr as a key figure in the Alan Eagleson scandal, and as the unfortunate player forced into early retirement in 1978 because of his injuries. His is a story of dramatic highs and lows.In Searching for Bobby Orr, Canada’s foremost sportswriter gives us a compelling and graceful look at the life and times of Bobby Orr that is also a revealing portrait of a game and a country in transition. So Bobby Orr could skate, he could stickhandle, he could fight when he had to. He could shoot without looking at the net, without tipping a goaltender as |
