Use Lacrosse Recruiting To Your Advantage

Students across the country are facing financing shortages when it comes to funding college educations. Sports enthusiasts have a way into college: through a sports scholarship. College lacrosse recruiting is designed to give you a chance to play your favorite sport for the college of your choice, and earn your degree while doing so. There are several steps you can take to ensure that you glean full advantage of lacrosse recruiting events and activities.

Fairly early in your high school lacrosse experience you will want to narrow down your list of colleges where you might want to attend and play. This becomes important at the high school level, because it gives you an opportunity to attend lacrosse recruiting camps at your favorite college campuses. This gives you several advantages. At lacrosse recruiting camps you can meet with the college coaching staff, and in this way you will get to know them a bit better than you might through correspondence alone. College lacrosse recruiting events also give the coaches a chance to meet and talk with you, and that helps them to remember you out of the many students that they see during the lacrosse recruiting process throughout the year.

Attending lacrosse recruiting camps at your choice of college also affords you the opportunity to use your time off the playing field wisely. You can explore the campus, and see for yourself all of the academic departments where you might attend classes. Sometimes if you put in a request in advance of your college lacrosse recruiting visit, you may be allowed to sit in on a few classes to get a sense of what classes are like at this particular institution.

Lacrosse recruiting camps also allow you to eat both on and off campus, and to stay in on-campus housing. Both of these factor in heavily toward making you feel comfortable and secure in the new environment of college, and so it is important that you find out in advance what the room and board situation is like at the college when you visit during a lacrosse recruiting session. In order to make the most of lacrosse recruiting camps, you will want to do a little homework in advance of your visit. Before you attend the camp, you will want to put together a lacrosse recruiting video of yourself playing both a full game and some game highlights. In all correspondence that you include with the video you will want to include your name, the position you play and jersey number, so that lacrosse recruiting scouts can easily identify you on the video.

By keeping these ideas in mind, you will have greater success at making a favorable impression on lacrosse recruiting coaching staff, and make your college dream a reality.

Motivation in sport: Bridging historical and contemporary theory through a qualitative approach.

Motivation in sport: Bridging historical and contemporary theory through a qualitative approach.

$69

From intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to attributions and goal orientation, theory and study related to motivation in sport abound. However, theorists such as Adler (Adler, 1998), Frankl (1984), and Maslow (Maslow, 1962) detail broader motivational frameworks that focus on a human impulse to derive meaning and purpose by extending beyond the self. While such theories take prominent positions within psychology, there applicability to sport has seemingly been overlooked. In an effort to explore more traditional motivational constructs in sport, a qualitative analysis of elite lacrosse coaches (n=7) was conducted. Through semi-structured interviews, coaches shared their motivation to coach and how they motivate others. In these interviews coaches articulated a number of motivational constructs that extend beyond much of the contemporary theory. In analyzing these interviews, it is apparent that further work related to broader motivational constructs may be required to more wholly define motivation in sport.

Bill Murray’s entire career has been unconventional; he is unconventional; therefore, wouldn’t you expect his retirement to be a little unconventional? Well, it will be. For the first half of his career he held various positions as an aircraft operator, and during the last half of his career he transitioned to acquisition and program management. Colonel Murray flew two thousand hours in the F-111D/F, F-16B/D, and C-130H. In Renegade Colonel, he recounts his experiences over the thirty years that he served in the United States Air Force. From his early years as an aircraft operator to his later years in director positions, Bill has had the experience of a lifetime. In the years to come, he wants his family to have a glimpse into his life. How many people have lived in Canada, England, and Spain, burned down a barn, burned down two houses, gone to the Air Force Academy, burned up a room at the Air Force Academy, played collegiate football, wrestling and lacrosse, flown supersonic fighters, crashed a plane and survived, had cancer and survived, had children and survived? You get the idea. Renegade Colonel is a book of experiences, but also a book of philosophy and instruction.
