Soccer Drills

A Guide To Conducting Soccer Drills
During soccer drills, it’s of prime importance that young players are trained on both good playing techniques and effective communication which are the foundation of developing great players. When they get senior, these players will positively impact the game.
It’s your duty as a coach to make them clear the goals that need to be accomplished after their training on the basic drills has been completed.
Most coaches fail to convey this message in soccer training to their players that there is much more to simply kicking the ball into the goal to become a great soccer player.
This article reflects upon some soccer drills which have a double benefit of assisting the players improve in the game along with adding a tinge of excitement in their regular practice sessions.
1. Passing drill is the first and the main drill out of all drills. This requires placing of two cones down 10 yards far from each other. Then 5 players are lined up at the back of each cone. One player will start with the ball from one of the two lines and then pass the ball to another player on the opposite line.
2. Once this first player has passed the ball, they would then run about on the outside of the cones. They will then head back of the same line to which that they had earlier passed the ball. Keep on doing this until every player gets a chance to pass the ball at least a couple of times.
3. Allow the players in soccer practice to touch the ball at least twice while carrying out this drill. Train them to use the first touch to trap the ball, and use the second touch to prepare the ball for a pass.
4. Remember that it is important for the ball to remain close to the player’s body after the first touch. Of the first few soccer exercises, this is the one taught to the players in order to develop the player’s ability to keep control of the ball. Players use the second touch to pass the ball to players in the opposite line.
5. While the young players are learning the technique to pass the ball, it is important to train them on kicking the ball using the inside of their foot. This is useful for players in that they are able to swiftly pass the ball to a player in the opposite line.
6. Take the training session to the next grade of the drill where players learn to use just one touch of the ball. This means that every time the player comes into contact with the ball, he’ll have to pass it on immediately to another player.
So ensure that your players are extremely quick in moving towards another line since this drill is a very fast paced drill.
