Soccer Field Diagram : 3 Ways To Learn Soccer Formations

When a soccer field diagram is used to teach the kids soccer formations and various positions, the job of planning and execution becomes very simple. It’s better to make the young kids between 4 to 6 years in age play in small sided soccer like a 3 v 3 or a 4 v 4 without any goalies.

With the kids growing up, they can move to a 5 v 5 together with a goalkeeper. This has tremendous benefits. They enjoy the game more, have maximum touch possible with the ball and learn the concepts better.

At this tender age, the kids are just about learning to control and pass the ball. You can start training them on positions and formations also. It is a good time to designate players as forwards and defenders. You should also ensure that they get to their positions as much as possible.

Someday in future you’ll see the number of players improving in accordance with the field’s size. Then it becomes a little tricky to create formations. Even then the players must be designated at various positions and see that they are performing sincerely from these positions.

Soccer formation

When you’ve chosen the formations, you must chat about it with the players. Explain to the players why one player is preferred for a specific position in comparison to another and also the theory that follows it. This is why a soccer field diagram is so useful. Kids are in a better position to learn by viewing visual depictions. There would also be some players who learn by reading the printed content or by watching you perform drills on the field.

There are some general policies and soccer tactics that should be adhered to for every soccer position such as defenders, midfielders, and forwards. These guidelines form the basis of a 2-2-2 formation in a 7 v 7 game. These guidelines are general in nature and you must modify them a little to suit your style, plan, and approach.

As an illustration, you may choose to engage 3 midfielders instead of 2. You may require your center midfielder to react aggressively on offence or you may prefer that he marks the other teams best midfielder on defense. You may want that your wing defenders take all throw-ins. There can a lot of changes.

In addition to the diagram, it is always a good idea to document your thought process in writing. This gives the kids an opportunity to go through the instructions at their own pace which improves their understanding a great deal. The parents can also go through these and appreciate your objectives and plans for the team and players.

Whatever you do, just make sure that you use the field diagram extensively when teaching soccer positions. It’s probably the best tool that helps save a lot of time and energy in the event of explaining the formations.

What’s stopping you then? Get going and utilize a soccer field diagram to train your players on various positions and formations on the field. Our youth soccer coaching community is full of such useful knowledge on youth soccer. Become a member today and avail the many advantages.
