Soccer Coaching Tips From Professional Soccer Coaches

Are you looking for effective and time-tested soccer coaching tips to take your team to the next level? Does it bother you that your team is not taking the drills seriously, or that your plans are not working?

Here are 5 unbeatable tips that can never go wrong and are guaranteed to enhance your team’s performance.

1. Design your procedures meticulously: Ensure that your plans are in tandem with your objectives or they will fail miserably. Make your kids aware of your plans for the team, take what they have to offer in terms of advice and move on from there. Getting everyone involved is a good thing. Results not achieved within the designated timelines can derail your progress. There should always be scope for improvements, big or small. You never know what will happen on the field on account of unexpected events. So to ensure continuous success, ensure spontaneity and consistency in your plans.

2. Ensure that the drills are enjoyable: Monotony can quickly set in if there is lack of variety in different activities in the training schedule and as a coach, this is your biggest nightmare. There are several interesting methods to sustain the interest of the kids. After the training, you can take them out on an excursion, initiate a group discussion (not necessarily on soccer), and encourage them to intermingle with each other and so on. This will help them unwind and feel good about these sessions.

3. Be a friend as well as a guide: The game of soccer demands total dedication and sincerity and achieving this can be a little tricky with kids. So ensure discipline at all levels and that it is never compromised. Don’t underestimate the power of these soccer coaching tips.
It is a great idea to leave a few minutes/hours out of regular sessions where the players can hang out and discover things on their own. It is also a good idea to take them out for camping or any other excursion for a day.

4. Be encouraging and caring: A good coach not only motivates the kids to be adventurous but is also caring to the extent that when things do not work out, he is there to sympathize. Keep the group under your watchful eye and lend a helping hand when things do not work out the way as expected. However, note that it may prove counter-productive to scold the players for errors. Your success as a coach is measured by how well the kids are able to execute new ideas or recover from failures. That is the yardstick of your performance.

5. The balancing act: Training fields and sessions are the best places to recognize and acknowledge talent. It is natural that in a team, there are some great players, some average, while others simply poor. As a coach, it is your duty to use your best players to motivate and inspire the others. The primary objective of any coach must be to keep the flock together so that there is perfect harmony and unison between all the players irrespective of their abilities. Never make irrational judgments that seem partial and one-sided.

Kids learn quickly but their mind is tender and can therefore drift easily. That is what makes youth coaching a little complicated. After all, it is not easy to motivate people to deliver under extreme pressure. These soccer coaching tips do exactly that, help you develop a great chemistry between you and your players while at the same time helping them deliver results. Your coaching potential will reach its pinnacle with these tips. But you must ensure that this learning continues and the best way to do that is by joining our youth soccer community where you will meet people who are passionate about the game and live by its principles.

Excerpt: Phoenix from the Flames was a regular feature on the BBC/ITV show Fantasy Football League, which involved presenters David Baddiel and Frank Skinner recreating a famous moment from footballing history with one of the people involved at the time. Up the last episode of the programme, on July 3, 2004, the number of recreations had reached 84. The Loveday-King sketch (No. 68) of Fantasy World Cup was broadcast in the final programme of that series. When Fantasy Euro 2004 started, the first sketch involving David Seaman had the caption “72″ on it, and all following sketches went on from that. It’s unclear whether more sketches were broadcast in the years before, or if the makers of the programme simply got their figures wrong. The following have all been the subject of Phoenixes but the numbers in what they appeared are not known by this author. A sketch in this made-for-video special involved a NASA astronaut entering David and Frank’s flat asking for fourteen Phoenix’s to make up part of a football time capsule to shoot into space to educate extraterrestrial life forms of the game. After finding only thirteen (numbers 1, 5, 9, 2, 14, 21, 3, 10, 6, 19, 11, 15 and 20, in that order) the astronaut revealed himself to be Dave Beasant – they then went o… More:

 Handbook of Japanese Mythology

Handbook of Japanese Mythology

$14.38

Japanese gods, too numerous to count, are known collectively as yaoyorozu-no-kamigami—the eight million. They are the cast of a vast, complex mythology that encompasses two religions, three cultures, and three millennia, one whose ancient deities are still hard at work today. Handbook of Japanese Mythology makes it easy to travel this vast yet little-known mythological landscape. The book reveals the origins of Japan’s myths in the very different realms of Buddhism, Shinto, and folklore, and explores related mythologies of the Ainu and Okinawan cultures and recent myths arising from Japan’s encounters with modernization. It then offers vivid retellings of the central Shinto and Buddhist myths, plus descriptions of major historical figures, icons, rituals, and events. For students or long-time enthusiasts, it is the ideal guide for investigating Japanese reverence for the sun, the imperial family, and the virtues of purity and loyalty. Readers will also learn why sumo wrestlers stomp before each match, how a fussy baby creates thunder, why Japan has a god for soccer, and much more.

If You're Second You Are Nothing: Ferguson and Shankly

If You’re Second You Are Nothing: Ferguson and Shankly

$28.64

Bill Shankly was one of ten children from an Ayrshire mining village. Alex Ferguson was a shipyard worker’s son who went on to become a toolmaker’s shop steward. Both of them enjoyed distinguished but not outstanding playing careers. Both of them raged against the might of the rich in their early managerial days, and both of course will be remembered as two of the mightiest figures in the history of the English game. There is a rich seam that links the epic lives of Shankly and Ferguson, running between their enemy soccer strongholds in Liverpool and Manchester. It goes deeper than the myriad achievements of both men—three league titles for Shankly, eight championships and a European Cup for Ferguson. What binds them is their long love affairs with soccer, which were so consuming that a tragic form of rejection was almost inevitable. Shankly felt betrayed by the club he had built from the ground up in the 1960s, and when he died from a heart attack in 1981 the deep rift between him and Liverpool had not been healed. Equally, with Malcolm Glazer’s takeover, Ferguson looks more and more like a man out of his time, a man whose once absolute authority over his players may be slipping. In this riveting dual biography Oliver Holt takes two of soccer’s undisputed greats and shows what made both men tick. In part a celebration of two driven, charismatic and hard-nosed characters, If You’re Second You Are Nothing is also a poignant evocation of men not knowing how to let go of the game to which they have given so much.

 Loteria

Loteria

$0.99

A pastime, delightful—Chips, cards, and a table. The riddles insightful, the future, unstable! What is it?It’s Lotería, the Mexican game of chance! For the uninitiated, it might seem like bingo played with a riddling tarot deck. But this enthralling board game is more than entertainment. The images found on its cards—La Virgen, El Pan Dulce, La Telenovela—are miniature reflections of an entire culture, capturing the joys and sorrows of the Mexican people. Wildly popular on both sides of the border, Lotería cards originated in the Iberian peninsula in the eighteenth century but have been redesigned so many times as to defy expectation, with boards devoted to ecclesiastical figures, soccer idols, and even vaudeville starlets. With the dawn of a new millennium, American artist Teresa Villegas created a new Lotería set that is already gaining popularity in Mexico, and her striking images are also widely exhibited in galleries across the United States. This gift book, which will bring pleasure and bewilderment to children and adults alike, reproduces more than two dozen of Villegas’s 54 colorful cards, pairing them with insightful, humorous riddles written by award-winning author Ilan Stavans. Stavans also revisits his childhood in an essay that examines the role of luck in Mexican life and recreates the sort of poetry jam that often accompanies Lotería contests wherever they might take place. Delve into the emblematic pages of this marvelous volume to find your own Calavera. Let yourself unravel the paths of El Deseo and the mysteries of El Corazón. Before too long, you’ll realize that luck is never truly accidental—for a turn at ¡Lotería! is always an opportunity to come face to face with El Destino.

 Motion: American Sports Poems

Motion: American Sports Poems

$19

Sports have long served as inspiration for poetry-the ancient Greeks wrote odes in praise of their athletes-so it is little surprise that in a culture as obsessed with athletes as our own sports would exert an influence on contemporary poets. Motion: American Sports Poems rescues sports from our society’s focus on superstars, multimillion-dollar contracts, and gold medals to capture champions and losers, competitors and spectators in moments that are anything but fleeting. As Noah Blaustein points out in his preface, among the many parallels made between sports and poetry is the idea of transcendence. Forged from the most basic elements of sport-energy, movement, and rhythm-the poems in this anthology reflect something universal: sport as metaphor, sport as struggle, sport as the battleground for mythic figures and local heroes. The often celebrated sports-baseball, boxing, football, and basketball-are here along with unexpected pastimes like surfing, skateboarding, tennis, soccer, karate, rock climbing, bowling, and curling. Young and old, black and white, male and female, the poets in this anthology celebrate everyone who has come together in the shimmy and shake and sweat of sport.

My Ex Best Friend: A Novel of Suburbia

My Ex Best Friend: A Novel of Suburbia

$11.99

Journalist, wife, and mother of three, Claire Newman juggles work, soccer games, birthday parties, and errands. A successful writer at Nationweek, America’s second largest newsweekly, she makes her living by being, as she says, “a relentless snoop,” but she never was able to figure out why her best friend of twenty-three years, Lydia Finelli, dropped out of her life with no explanation. Claire hasn’t seen Lydia in five years, and her unresolved hurt and anger still linger, brought to the surface by a chance encounter at the local bakery. When Lydia calls Claire and asks for her help, urging her to come discuss the situation in person, Claire figures it is one of “life’s rare opportunities to tie up a loose end.”But when Claire arrives at Lydia’s house, she finds her ex-best friend dead. While all the obvious signs point to suicide, Claire can’t shake the feeling there’s something very wrong. The irrepressible, feisty Claire starts investigating, and soon the list of suspects includes Lydia’s neurologist husband, her psychiatrist neighbor, and even her son’s handsome soccer coach. As Claire uncovers the secrets of her friend’s past, and their relationship, the puzzle becomes even more complicated, and she finds that she really didn’t know Lydia very well at all.But knowledge comes with a price, and as Claire unravels the mystery of Lydia’s death, she puts herself — and the people she loves — in harm’s way. Smart and funny, with razor-sharp storytelling, My Ex-Best Friend is the debut of a fresh new voice in contemporary fiction.

Neil Lennon: Man and Bhoy

$9.99

Captain and midfield enforcer for Northern Ireland, Neil Lennon is one of the most controversial figures in British soccer. His story, fully updated for the Celtic 2006–2007 season is an extraordinary tale of religious bigotry, life-threatening career injury, and tumultuous football success at club level. The first Northern Irish Roman Catholic to play for Celtic and to be chosen to captain his country, Lennon was sensationally forced to quit the captaincy even before he took the field following death threats by Loyalist paramilitaries. As he approaches the twilight of his playing career, Lennon has decided the time is right to reveal all about his life on the field—including his horrific spinal injury and his less than happy apprenticeships at Motherwell and Manchester City—as well as his hitherto closely guarded private life, including his battle with depression.

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Unsere Besten (“Our Best”) was a television series shown in German public television (ZDF) in November 2003, similar to the BBC series 100 Greatest Britons. In subsequent years, a dozen similar rankings were compiled, mostly titled the “favourite (topic) of the Germans”, with topics including books, places, songs, actors, comedians, sports persons (extra list for soccer players), inventions, and TV broadcasts (extra list for Olympic games). The intention initially was to find out “Who are the greatest Germans?” (Wer sind die größten Deutschen?), with more rankings to follow later. The German public was allowed to vote (via postcard, SMS or Internet) for the most important Germans-historical or contemporary-from a list of more than 300 people, plus additional suggestions. This pre-determined list of candidates was created for two reasons: However, the inclusion of Nikolaus Kopernikus, who spoke and wrote German, in the list of scientists caused controversy in Poland where he is revered as a national hero – the Polish Senate declared him an “exceptional Pole” on 12 June 2003. Similarly the inclusion of Mozart and Freud was criticized in Austria. For the final Top Ten, an additional round was held, in which each candidate was promoted by an “ambassador” (most of them journalists) that would explain the work and importance of his/her favourite. The final list appeared as shown below (in descending order). Several rather unknown figures ranked relatively high, no doubt because

A Premier League and international referee with 26 years of combined experience, Graham Poll handled some of the toughest games in soccer history—in total more than 1,500 matches—before his retirement in 2007. In this brilliant, no-holds-barred autobiography, Poll reveals what really goes on between the players in the tunnel before a match and in the dressing room after, and unveils the true nature behind the nicest and the nastiest figures in the game. Poll also shares private conversations with the likes of Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Sepp Blatter, and Steve McClaren, and the inside story behind controversial incidents involving Roy Keane, David Beckham, Patrick Vieira, and current England captain John Terry, among others. The infamous 2006 World Cup match—during which he failed to send off a Croatian player after he earned three yellow cards—that brought Poll home early in disgrace and nearly ruined his career is covered as well. Honest and eye-opening, this is a gripping behind the scenes look from one of the beautiful game’s most noted figures.

 Swing!: A Scanimation Picture Book

Swing!: A Scanimation Picture Book

$12.95

Published last fall, Gallop! introduced the amazing technology called Scanimation and took the children’s book world by storm. It became an instant bestseller—#1 on The New York Times children’s list. Now Swing! does for kids what Gallop! does for animals—a boy rides a bike, a girl kicks her soccer ball, a swimmer cuts through the water, and a skater pirouettes on ice. The effect is joyous, magical, mesmerizing, and taps into the the endless fascination that children find in watching other children. The second book created by Rufus Butler Seder, the inventor, artist, and filmmaker who developed Scanimation out of his obsession with antique optical toys and other pre-motion-picture illusions, Swing! uses "persistence of vision" and a patented state-of-the-art multiphase animation process to create astonishment. There is nothing else like this unique, patented technology that literally inspires wonder. The images burst with activity, and adding greatly is a happy, rhyming text that captures in words the pure energy of the figures in motion. You can’t put it down.
