Soccer For Kids In Dc

Technology has a way of taking the existing modern culture and making it more sophisticated and alluring to the masses. It is hence not surprising to see a new culture being formed today. The two gigantic communication technologies of the 20th century, namely the computer and television, were merged to give us a technology that is forming a parallel culture. This phenomenon is called ‘the gaming culture’ and the youth of today swear by it.
Entertainment for the youth is increasingly becoming hi-tech, and gaming is taking it to a whole new level. The gaming culture comprises of games played on personal computers, or on gaming consoles like the Xbox, PlayStation or Wii, on the cell phones or on hand held gaming devices like the PSP or the Nintendo DS.
This platform is a true representation of the term ‘Global Village’ as it is open to all, and barriers like age, gender or race doesn’t come into play here. The youth are collaborating and interacting with others like never before. The notion that kids play games in seclusion, in a dark room or the basement is baseless, as the games they play revolve around racing, puzzles and sports. Often these games are played in groups, which requires information sharing and encourages peer based learning. This automatically builds traits like team work and goal orientation which will help them in the real world.
Educators can use this platform as a great teaching tool as teens are communicating better, by connecting with friends they know or making new ones on-line. Gaming forums, blogs, websites, writing reviews on games are becoming a popular fad among teens. Both, teaching and learning can be fun by drawing from this new culture.
Is there a flip side to this? Does it contribute to anti-social behavior? There are critics who state that gaming culture leads to violence amongst teen and makes them a recluse. But, the popular games like Madden NFL or The Sims contain no violence. Definitely, there are games which have violence or use of strong language. And it might lead the teens to behave aggressively during the tenure of the game but that doesn’t mean it will transform into aggression. The game played, has to be age- appropriate and there has to be some kind of monitoring. But to be realistic, can you stop one from playing soccer or football because it will lead to aggression. Teens cannot be raised in a vacuum, they have to be exposed to these situation so that they pick up on one important trait, self-control. Teens are future adults in training. We need to equip them with the right tools to cope with the challenges that life will throw at them.
Playing games in an interesting aspect in a teens life, it ups the fun and excitement quotient. But all things in moderation is the key to a healthy lifestyle. The gaming culture is a part of the whole. As long as it stays that way, the critics can give it a rest!
