Coach Youth Soccer: Secrets Revealed

Understand this! When you coach youth soccer, it becomes a challenge to come up with challenging and interesting drills for the kids. In teaching soccer, it is a huge stress to keep innovating new tricks to make soccer drills enjoyable for kids.

What follow are some drills that you can teach youth soccer players. These help them not just focus on the game, become proficient in soccer, but also enjoy the game.

Teach the boys dribbling and shooting: This is a straight-forward drill that all the players can take part in at the same time. Have the kid’s line up on the single goal line. Now distribute the balls all over the soccer field. Once done, tell the kids to play with the balls as if they are moving towards the opponent’s goal. They must also shoot the ball when they get a chance.

This workout helps the kids build their stamina, confidence and also improves their dribbling skills. As the kids do not face any opposition while moving forward, it reflects their style of playing soccer.

Coaching Youth Soccer

Teach them to pass the ball: Tell the kids to position themselves at the far end of the field. Tell them to run towards you as fast as possible as soon as you have finished counting till 3. When they are running towards you, they should also try to take over the ball from the other player who has it. When you say stop, the player who has the ball must pass it to another player.

When you coach youth soccer, these drills bring out the best in kids when it comes to passing and dribbling. They also learn the art of stealing the ball from other players which is very important.

Touch and Go: It’s an exciting game that kids enjoy playing. The kids should get in two lines distant from the goal post which is less than 40 meters away. Besides, the goalpost should be defended by the goalie. You should stand someplace between the two rows.

Pass the ball to either of the queue and with only one tap teach them to shoot or pass the ball to another. The purpose must be to convert it into a goal. Continue practicing the game after the goalie has returned the ball.

In case of two or more than two goalies in team, they should be rotated between practice sessions. This game involves team effort and also improves the shooting skills. Also, the goalkeepers learn to save the ball from hitting the goal post.

Keeping the control of the ball: This exercise allows the players to learn to advance with the ball while retaining its control. Engage two players, one protecting the ball and the other attacking it. The players should then to told to proceed as per their part and try to get a point every time by leading another player.

These account for some easiest practices to coach youth soccer. You can make your kids perform these as they help them learn along with having loads of fun. If you would like more such tips and know about drills, join our youth soccer coaching community.
