Coaching High School Soccer: 5 Action Ideas To Be Tough

Speaking of coaching high school soccer, the outlook and behavior of the coach are the most important influences affecting a player’s performance. Coaches cannot expect to have a mentally tough team unless they plan a program that emphasizes and reinforces positive winning attitude.

The coach is an important and an influential authority figure in player’s lives. It’s the body language, outlook, and expressions of the coach that can outline, add force to, or damage the players self esteem.

In relation to coaching youth soccer, mental strength is about meeting the challenges with a positive attitude. For this reason, in practice as well as in competition, the starting point should be the coach.

The coach will find that a disciplined post-match routine is helpful in ensuring that he or she does not get either too high or too low. A successful coach will exploit ideas, anecdotes, and images, videos, and all that to shape the collective attitude of the team and train them to be mentally tough in practice.

Coaching Youth Soccer

In football coaching, the coach who wants a mentally tough team must demonstrate a controlled way to deal with emotional setbacks despite personal feelings.

If the coach shows an unwavering belief in the team’s ability to achieve despite the obstacles, then the team has a framework for building the same mind-set and will become increasingly motivated.

Coping with failures and mistakes in coaching high school soccer is another area of responsibility for the coach. One of the keys to a player’s motivation and the wish to work towards correcting mistakes is the coach’s response to failure. There are two choices available to the coach.

One is to use failure as an opportunity to give the players feedback on how to improve. Persuade them to recommit themselves to the effort with renewed motivation.

Second, use failure as evidence of the player’s inadequacy and proof that they cannot meet expectations. Players will get de-motivated because of this emotional overreaction.

One way that players become mentally tough is by accepting responsibility for their thoughts, feelings, and actions and rejecting all possible excuses. The coaches can help the players by being quizzical and lending ears to them rather than pointing at their mistakes while soccer coaching. They should be encouraged to talk about what they could have done better.

This can be referred to as self-reference. The coach can encourage the players by encouraging the players to self reference. Rather than delivering a definition of the situation to the players, the coach can ask the player of his or her view point on the situation. In order to explain, we can take the instance “How do you feel you played?” or “Why do you feel you behaved that way?”

It is important for the players to think deeply and thoroughly and then account for their reactions which are very critical part of the learning process.

Whatever methods that you’ve just learnt, go ahead and start applying in coaching high school soccer.

If you want to be a better coach, you must subscribe to our youth soccer coaching community that has a lot of relevant information in the form of videos, relevant articles and newsletters.

Commerce City, Colorado (Images of America Series)

$10.13

Among Colorado’s fastest growing cities in the 21st century, Commerce City was settled in the 1850s, located today 8 miles northeast of Denver’s capitol building. Known for hog farms, truck farms, and dairies, as well as refineries and grain elevators, Commerce City was, during World War II, the site of the enormous Rocky Mountain Arsenal, a U.S. Army weapons manufacturing facility. Incorporated in 1952 as Commerce Town, the name was changed to Commerce City in 1962, which adopted home rule in 1970. Commerce City is regionally famous and nationally recognized for parks and recreation, Buffalo Run Golf Course, Mile High Kennel Club (dog racing), and nearby Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. The new Commerce City Civic Center and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, which is home to pro soccer’s Colorado Rapids, were completed in 2007. Commerce City remains a speedily changing municipality with a diverse cultural mix and generations of residents with strong community roots.

Crofton, Maryland (Images of America Series)

$10

Established in 1964 as a planned community, Crofton’s almost 2,000 acres have been colonized and cultivated since the mid-17th century. Its roots can be traced to America’s first planned community–Williamsburg, Virginia. Williamsburg’s elegance and charm inspired developer W. Hamilton Crawford’s idyllic design for Crofton: a grand boulevard, curving residential streets, arching trees, a country club, and easy access to nearby Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. This collection of photographs from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century reflects the life and times of the maturing village of Crofton. Fields of tobacco and corn, towering woodlands, cherry tree saplings along Crofton Parkway, the dedication of Crofton Park, summer Little League camp–Images of America: Crofton is a compendium of dreams fulfilled. Independence Day parades; fairs; bicycle races; pumpkin-design competitions; softball, soccer, and basketball teams; and summer concerts on the Green are all here. While historians record the facts, artists and cameras capture the small moments as well as the grand events. Those moments, large and small, are what readers will find between these covers.

Golden and Blue Like My Heart: Masculinity, Youth, and Power among Soccer Fans in Mexico City

Golden and Blue Like My Heart: Masculinity, Youth, and Power among Soccer Fans in Mexico City

$45

For fans of pro soccer in Mexico City, the four most popular teams represent distinct identities that embody such attributes as political power, nationalism, and working-class values. One of these teams, the Pumas, is associated with youthfulness, and its equally youthful fans take pride in the fact that their heroes have not yet been corrupted by corporate or political interests. This ethnographic study examines Puma fans’ understanding of the ideal that the team represents, considers the practices they employ to express and sometimes contradict this ideal, and reveals how soccer fandom in contemporary Mexico has emerged as a nexus of tensions among competing visions of state and society.Roger Magazine takes readers inside Mexico’s soccer stadiums to explore young men’s participation in struggles over the future of that country’s urban society. His firsthand observations of the fan clubs—las porras—yield a unique inside look at confrontations in the stands over group organization, particularly at the emergence of rebel segments within the clubs. His study offers a close-up look at ground-level struggles over social organization in contemporary urban Mexico, showing how young male fans both blindly reproduce and consciously manipulate images of violence and disorder derived from national myths about typical urban Mexican men.Golden and Blue Like My Heart offers a new way of understanding the dynamics of fandom while shedding new light on larger social processes and youth culture in Mexico. And with its insight into soccer culture, politico-economic transition, and masculinity, it has important and wide-reaching implications for all of Latin America.

Granada Hills, California (Images of America Series)

$14.15

The modern history of Granada Hills began in 1913 with the completion of the Los Angeles aqueduct and the arrival of abundant freshwater to the former land of Mission San Fernando. Citrus orchardsflourished on the Sunshine Ranch, acreage originally cultivated by former senator George K. Porter. In 1926, the community of Granada was formed as a rabbit-raising colony, promising residents country living and economic prosperity. Granada added “Hills” to its name in 1942 to avoid confusion with a similarly named Northern California town, andthanks to the postwar baby boom, the population grew by 1,000 percent between 1950 and 1960. The community soon earned a reputation as “The San Fernando Valley’s Most Neighborly Town” as residents came together to celebrate the hometown team’s 1963 Little League World Series victory and the formation of the nation’s first all-girl American Youth Soccer Organization league, and as neighbor helped neighborafter the devastating 1971 and 1994 earthquakes.

Kitchener: (Berlin) 1880-1960 (Images of Canada Series)

Kitchener: (Berlin) 1880-1960 (Images of Canada Series)

$21.99

Kitchener, Ontario, is a community with two histories. As Berlin, it was a rapidly growing and prosperous town reveling in its Germanic heritage. After dramatic civic upheavals from 1915 to 1919, it emerged, somewhat bruised, as Kitchener. From a twenty-first-century viewpoint, there often appears to be a disconnection between the two. Kitchener (Berlin): 1880-1960 challenges this perception and bridges the two histories. Using mostly unpublished photographs, many from the Waterloo Historical Society’s collection, the author captures the town that was and the city that is. Kitchener (Berlin): 1880-1960 brings to life many long-gone treasures, such as the classic city hall, the post office, and the sugar factory. William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada’s longest-serving prime minister, is seen during his hometown visits. Famous, as well as less familiar, individuals are captured, including Breithaupt and Bailey, Ahrens and Timm, Schmalz and Peoli, and Euler and Izma. This history also welcomes the reader to explore such questions as who was the father of Canadian soccer, who really turned on the first hydropower in 1910, who were “Big Charlie” and “Pop,” and what was the Committee-of-One?

 Loteria

Loteria

$0.99

A pastime, delightful—Chips, cards, and a table. The riddles insightful, the future, unstable! What is it?It’s Lotería, the Mexican game of chance! For the uninitiated, it might seem like bingo played with a riddling tarot deck. But this enthralling board game is more than entertainment. The images found on its cards—La Virgen, El Pan Dulce, La Telenovela—are miniature reflections of an entire culture, capturing the joys and sorrows of the Mexican people. Wildly popular on both sides of the border, Lotería cards originated in the Iberian peninsula in the eighteenth century but have been redesigned so many times as to defy expectation, with boards devoted to ecclesiastical figures, soccer idols, and even vaudeville starlets. With the dawn of a new millennium, American artist Teresa Villegas created a new Lotería set that is already gaining popularity in Mexico, and her striking images are also widely exhibited in galleries across the United States. This gift book, which will bring pleasure and bewilderment to children and adults alike, reproduces more than two dozen of Villegas’s 54 colorful cards, pairing them with insightful, humorous riddles written by award-winning author Ilan Stavans. Stavans also revisits his childhood in an essay that examines the role of luck in Mexican life and recreates the sort of poetry jam that often accompanies Lotería contests wherever they might take place. Delve into the emblematic pages of this marvelous volume to find your own Calavera. Let yourself unravel the paths of El Deseo and the mysteries of El Corazón. Before too long, you’ll realize that luck is never truly accidental—for a turn at ¡Lotería! is always an opportunity to come face to face with El Destino.

 Magnum Soccer

Magnum Soccer

$2.17

The game of soccer has the true power to unify people across a nation and the globe. More than simply kicking a ball around, soccer stirs passions beyond rational thought, and crosses every boundary of nationality, race, class, and religion. Magnum Soccer is a lively portfolio of images by outstanding Magnum photographers that document the pleasures, passions and tensions of this universal game. From children playing barefoot on African mud, to priests juggling the ball in a Brazilian seminary, to Japanese superfans decked-out in neon blue wigs, to Marilyn Monroe kicking off a match in New York City, the collection shows how deeply the roots of soccer culture run and how widely they are spread. Important social issues are also raised in the book such as military occupation, the empowerment of women through soccer in Iran, and the bitter religious rivalry between Glasgow’s two teams the Rangers and Celtics. Swing!: A Scanimation Picture Book

Swing!: A Scanimation Picture Book

$12.95

Published last fall, Gallop! introduced the amazing technology called Scanimation and took the children’s book world by storm. It became an instant bestseller—#1 on The New York Times children’s list. Now Swing! does for kids what Gallop! does for animals—a boy rides a bike, a girl kicks her soccer ball, a swimmer cuts through the water, and a skater pirouettes on ice. The effect is joyous, magical, mesmerizing, and taps into the the endless fascination that children find in watching other children. The second book created by Rufus Butler Seder, the inventor, artist, and filmmaker who developed Scanimation out of his obsession with antique optical toys and other pre-motion-picture illusions, Swing! uses "persistence of vision" and a patented state-of-the-art multiphase animation process to create astonishment. There is nothing else like this unique, patented technology that literally inspires wonder. The images burst with activity, and adding greatly is a happy, rhyming text that captures in words the pure energy of the figures in motion. You can’t put it down.

The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations

The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations

$18

For over thirty years, Stephen Braude has studied the paranormal in everyday life, from extrasensory perception and psychokinesis to mediumship and materialization. The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations is a highly readable and often amusing account of his most memorable encounters with such phenomena. Here Braude recounts in fascinating detail five particular cases—some that challenge our most fundamental scientific beliefs and others that expose our own credulousness. Braude begins with a south Florida woman who can make thin gold-colored foil appear spontaneously on her skin. He then travels to New York and California to test psychokinetic superstars—and frauds—like Joe Nuzum, who claim to move objects using only their minds. Along the way, Braude also investigates the startling allegations of K.R., a policeman in Annapolis who believes he can transfer images from photographs onto other objects—including his own body—and Ted Serios, a deceased Chicago elevator operator who could make a variety of different images appear on Polaroid film. Ultimately, Braude considers his wife’s surprisingly fruitful experiments with astrology, which she has used to guide professional soccer teams to the top of their leagues, as well as his own personal experiences with synchronicity—a phenomenon, he argues, that may need to be explained in terms of a refined, extensive, and dramatic form of psychokinesis. Heady, provocative, and brimming with eye-opening details and suggestions, The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations will intrigue both adherents and detractors of its controversial subject matter alike.
