Soccer Coaching Tips: Learn What Youth Soccer Is All About

Have you ever imagined how a handful of secret youth soccer coaching tips can help you build a great soccer team The possibility is no because it is a general belief that you need to invest years in the game to be even eligible to coach a young soccer team. The following are some important kids soccer drills that help them emerge victorious.

Soccer is about being fit, skilled, thorough, and planned. Help the kids be aware of that. Begin with the fundamentals. Help the kids understand everything about soccer, regular workouts, food and drink, team spirit and so on. It is necessary that you are not the only one talking always. Motivate the kids to talk to you. There is only one way to make the kids love soccer and it is to be friendly to them.

Be very cautious executing youth soccer coaching drills. Talk to the kids before practice sessions. The instructions should not be very long. A session that lasts for 30 minutes, do not devote more than 10 minutes to initial briefing. Stay away from the field while the kids are enjoying their practice session. Take note of the mistakes being made and address them afterwards or during the breaks. When you interfere in a session, it will irritate the players, so do it only when it is absolutely necessary. These soccer coaching tips are known to be successful.

Feedback is essential but should be carefully drafted. The players are young and vulnerable. A dialog with them should be undertaken considering their sensibilities. It is suicidal to use foul language. It is important for you to understand that kids have both strengths and limitations at this tender age. Also, listen attentively. At times, even young players have powerful ideas that can be translated into great results.

Parents naturally have a great interest in how their kids are progressing. Try to involve them as much as you can. This is mainly because they will not be spending the whole day with you. A lot depends on the parents to guide and help their kids in achieving their goals. Communication is the key to keep the ideas flowing from both the sides. Conduct these get-togethers prior to or post teaching sessions to gain maximum advantage out of these. Please ensure that kids are not a part of these meetings. You can have their parent’s consent only when they know in detail about your plan, its scope and objectives.

Kids must stay motivated to continuously work towards the stated goals and it depends on how well their hard work is recognized. Praise works better and faster than money in taking the confidence level to the next level. Kids will positively stretch themselves to their limits when they see greater challenge with respect to work. In the case of soccer conditioning, don’t get carried away in your attempt to figure out the level of stamina and mental strength of the kids.

Always be doubly sure about it. Like any other sport, youth soccer is also an interesting game which requires a lot of hard work, immense focus and constant practice in order to be successful. Nothing can stop you from creating an extraordinary team built on the foundations laid down by these soccer coaching tips. Even a diamond in its raw form needs polishing by a professional, so you must also become a part of our youth soccer coaching facility to go places in your profession.

 A Game For All Seasons

A Game For All Seasons

$17.99

The night air was crisp, even at the 72 degrees that enveloped the 2000 fans that sat and watched as the Westland Dragons took on the Dallas Sting for the U-21 Women’s National Soccer Championship at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Field. Both teams had battled to a 1-1 tie over 90 minutes, and now both were coming to the end of the second 15-minute overtime tied at one goal apiece. A shoot-out was inevitable, and how ironic I thought. This is how it all began for this team; this is what set this team apart from others when they were only 12 years old back in the fall of 1994. The whistle of the center official sounded and I knew what lie in store for our girls. They had been here before; they had all been through so much. Ashleigh, Jessie and Kendall were all on the bench due to injuries, and our back-up keeper, Christa, was asking me why she had to do this. I knew this time was different, this time it was for so much more than a trophy or a title. This time it was for all the games, all the seasons and all the players that had come and gone. This was going to be a game of a lifetime – this was their game for all seasons. The Lady Dragons were born on July 7th, 1994, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a warm night, and the heat of the day had parched the already dry field to a golden brown, with spots of green, as 45 young 12 year old girls showed up in mass to a tryout for the “New Premier team” about to be formed. Forty-five young girls all with the same dream: to someday play Women’s Major League Soccer. But now, it was a much smaller dream that lie ahead, they were all very sure that they would be the one, the one out of 45 that would catch the Coach’s eye and be chosen to be part of the 18 player roster.

African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World's Game

African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World’s Game

$16.95

From Accra and Algiers to Zanzibar and Zululand, Africans have wrested control of soccer from the hands of Europeans, and through the rise of different playing styles, the rich rituals of spectatorship, and the presence of magicians and healers, have turned soccer into a distinctively African activity. African Soccerscapes explores how Africans adopted soccer for their own reasons and on their own terms. The Confédération Africaine de Football democratized the global game through antiapartheid sanctions and increased the number of African teams in the World Cup finals. The unfortunate results of this success are the departure of huge numbers of players to overseas clubs and the influence of private commercial interests on the African game. But the growth of the women’s game and South Africa’s hosting of the 2010 World Cup also challenge the one-dimensional notion of Africa as a backward, “tribal” continent populated by victims of war, corruption, famine, and disease.

Excerpt: Superclásico is the name used to describe the football match in Argentina between Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate. It derives from the Spanish usage of “clásico” to mean derby, with the prefix “super” used as the two clubs are the most popular and successful clubs in Argentine football. According to some statistics, commandeering more than 70% of all Argentine football fans between them, with Boca claiming 40% and River 32%. The Superclásico is known worldwide as one of the fiercest and most important derbies. In April 2004, the English newspaper The Observer put the Superclásico at the top of their list of “50 sporting things you must do before you die”, saying that “Derby day in Buenos Aires makes the Old Firm game look like a primary school kick-about.” The two clubs both have origins in La Boca, the working class dockland area of Buenos Aires, with River being founded in 1901 and Boca in 1905. However, River moved to the affluent district of Núñez in the north of the city in 1925. Since then Boca Juniors has been known as the club of Argentina’s working class or the people’s club, with many Boca fans coming from the local Italian immigrant community. Boca fans are actually known as Xeneizes (Genoese). By contrast, River Plate became known by the nickname, Los Millonarios (The Millionaires), with a supposedly upper-class support base. Both clubs do though have supporters from all social classes. The first ever recorded Superclásico was a friendly played on 2 August 1908, when Boca prevailed 2-1. The first official match was played on 24 August 1913, with River winning 2-1. The Superclásico is particularly noted for the passion of the fans, with what the BBC describe as “a sea of colourful flowing

Beautiful Game: Sixteen Girls and the Soccer Season That Changed Everything

$0.01

Once nobody noticed Santa Rosa’s Thunder. They were a ragtag team of girls who wanted to play soccer, and no one took them seriously. Their male coach expected little from his “ladies, ” and their mediocre performance convinced them he was right. Then a kind of miracle happened. Emiria Salzmann, Thunder’s new coach, a top player herself, knew what it took to win—discipline, relentless drills, thigh-burning sprints, and an inspired passing game. The girls hated it, but their coach never let up. Tough and determined, she showed them what it felt like to be winners—and they loved it. As the momentum grew with a string of victories, the girls thrived on the competition, believing they had the right stuff to become champions. They were right! With spirits soaring, Thunder won its league on the last day of the season and headed for the state cup, emerging not just as powerful athletes but as strong, confident, emotionally healthy human beings—champions in the game of soccer, and in the game of life.

Bogota Bandit: The Outlaw Life of Charlie Mitten, Manchester United’s Penalty King

$5.26

This is the story of Charlie Mitten, the man the FA once admitted was the greatest outside-left England ever had, but who stepped out of line as a trailblazer in the player’s contract revolution, walking out on club and country in 1950 to play in South America. During one short season with Bogota Santa Fe, Mitten won a place in South American folklore as orchestrator-in-chief of one of the most sensational upsets in soccer history—a makeshift Combian XI’s victory over the newly-crowned world champions, Uruguay. Rejecting an offer from Real Madrid, Mitten returned to Britain only to find he was a football outlaw, frozen out by the FA selectors and by United who refused to take him back. After a spell at Fulham, he went into management at Mansfield and Newcastle, but his attempts to produce a more skilful approach to the game and his warnings of an impending soccer hurricane from South America were largely ignored.

COACHING 6, 7 & 8 YEAR OLDS

$9.99

WHY WE HAVE CHANGED?The first edition of Coaching 6, 7 & 8 Year Olds was written in collaboration with Bobby Howe, at that time the Director of Coaching for the Washington State Youth Soccer Association, later Director of Coaching for the United States Soccer Federation. That was a long time ago (1988) . . . One year later we published Coaching 9, 10 & 11 Year Olds.Until recently, we hadn’t changed a word in either of them. Why? Like the Energizer Bunny they just kept on going, and going and going . . . !Over 100,000 copies of each of the originals have been sold. As I’m sure you would understand, we were reluctant to change. Consequently, nothing did except the photographs of the two authors. The book didn’t age, but the authors did!Since 1989, we have learned so much. So now it is time to change in order to update and improve the books, but at the same time, we will retain much of the core content that has worked so well. The 21st Century has given as another great technological opportunity – digital printing. We are now able to customize, modify and change the content of the manuals and the covers at will. We can update with every printing. And we can print just one book or 1000. So if, for instance, the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association wants their version of Coaching 6, 7 & 8 Year Olds, we can do it. If the Franklin Pierce Club only needs 10 customized copies of 9, 10 & 11 Manual for the coaches of their small club, we can do that too!And if we come up with the newest game that children think is a blast, we can insert that in the very next print.Tony Waiters

The entertaining, revealing, and controversial bestselling autobiography of one of the most respected figures in the world of soccer. Carlo Ancelotti is one of only six people to have won the Champions League—European soccer’s most coveted trophy—as both player and coach. After a successful career playing for several of the most important teams in Italy—and for the Italian national team—Ancelotti went on to become one of the most acclaimed and outspoken coaches in European football, managing Italian giants Parma, Juventus, and Milan before moving to Chelsea, one of the Premier League’s most successful clubs, in 2009. The book moves from anecdotes of his life growing up in Reggio Emilia to stories of his time playing among the best footballers in the world. With a characteristic mixture of sharp insight and humor, Ancelotti explores the differences between the Italian and the English games, shares his thoughts on soccer’s future with the MLS in America, and reflects on the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. With a preface by the legendary former captain of the Italian national team, Paolo Maldini, this book is at once a tactician’s bible from one of the world’s most celebrated footballing minds, the fascinating story of an ordinary man reaching great heights, and in part a revealing tell-all from an outspoken insider in the cut-throat world of European soccer. The perfect book for anyone with a passion for the beautiful game.

Grammar for Grownups presents a quick-and-easy reference guide to common grammatical usage. Its small size makes it convenient to keep in a briefcase, purse, or even a jacket pocket. While the book takes grammar seriously, it maintains a light and breezy tone.Grammar for Grownups excludes much of the technical explanation that you learned in school, but subsequently forgot. In the book, the author gives grammatical “bullet points” to help refresh your memories and bring your speech back to a professional level. These “bullet points” address the trouble spots, the commonly made mistakes that the author observed while conducting interviews. Ms. Adubato has worked as a news reporter in various television markets around the country. Often, these mistakes would ruin a perfectly good sound-bite and lessen the credibility of the speaker.Ms. Adubato acknowledges in her introduction that “no one speaks perfectly all the time,” but eliminating these gaffes from your everyday speech will help you to make a good impression from the board room to a sales call, at your child’s soccer game or on that all-important job interview.

Chapters: Penalty, Tie, Goal, Plus-Minus, Shot on Goal, Point, Assist, Goals Against Average, Shot Quality, List of Top Goal Scorers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Save Percentage. Excerpt: In ice hockey , an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the goal , meaning that they were “assisting” in the goal. There can be a maximum of two assists per goal. The assists will be awarded in the order of play, with the last player to pass the puck to the goal scorer getting the primary assist and the player who passed it to the primary assister getting the secondary assist. If a player scores off of a rebound given up by a goaltender , assists are still awarded, as long as there is no re-possession by that goaltender, meaning he or she did not have complete control of the puck.If a player passes the puck to another player who then completes a give-and-go with a different player for a goal, the player who made the pass that set up the goal gets a primary assist, while the player who passed to the eventual goal scorer before the give-and-go took place gets the secondary assist. If a team has possession and then loses possession to a player who then scores, there are no assists on the goal and therefore the goal is counted as “unassisted”.Players who gain an assist will get one point added to their player statistics. $28.64

Bill Shankly was one of ten children from an Ayrshire mining village. Alex Ferguson was a shipyard worker’s son who went on to become a toolmaker’s shop steward. Both of them enjoyed distinguished but not outstanding playing careers. Both of them raged against the might of the rich in their early managerial days, and both of course will be remembered as two of the mightiest figures in the history of the English game. There is a rich seam that links the epic lives of Shankly and Ferguson, running between their enemy soccer strongholds in Liverpool and Manchester. It goes deeper than the myriad achievements of both men—three league titles for Shankly, eight championships and a European Cup for Ferguson. What binds them is their long love affairs with soccer, which were so consuming that a tragic form of rejection was almost inevitable. Shankly felt betrayed by the club he had built from the ground up in the 1960s, and when he died from a heart attack in 1981 the deep rift between him and Liverpool had not been healed. Equally, with Malcolm Glazer’s takeover, Ferguson looks more and more like a man out of his time, a man whose once absolute authority over his players may be slipping. In this riveting dual biography Oliver Holt takes two of soccer’s undisputed greats and shows what made both men tick. In part a celebration of two driven, charismatic and hard-nosed characters, If You’re Second You Are Nothing is also a poignant evocation of men not knowing how to let go of the game to which they have given so much.

Manchester United – Man and Babe

The rich history of Manchester United has never thrown up a more colorful character than Wilf McGuinness. There is virtually no emotion that he hasn’t experienced during a lifetime in the game. Wilf has: played for his beloved United and his country at every level; won a championship medal with the Red Devils; suffered a cruel injury which cut short his career at the chronically premature age of 22; succeeded Sir Matt Busby as manager of Manchester United—and been sacked by the club to which he was so passionately devoted; lost all his hair, probably as a result of the shock of his demoralizing dismissal; played a key role in England’s 1966 World Cup glory under Sir Alf Ramsey; and, coached at York, Hull and Bury, and in soccer outposts around the world—all without losing his exuberant outlook on life in general and football in particular. As Sir Alex Ferguson said: “There is never a dull moment with Wilf. There is no more cheerful man in football!” One of the original Busby Babes, Wilf grew up alongside the likes of Duncan Edwards and Bobby Charlton, and but for injury would have been aboard the plane which crashed at Munich, killing 23 people including eight of his team-mates and friends. Now for the first time he tells the full story of his incident-packed lifetime in the game, revealing the joy and the injustice, the sorrow and the controversy. Man and Babe is a moving tale of excitement, anguish, and redemption, with humor never very far from the surface. It includes more than 100 photographs from Wilf’s personal collection, including the pre-Munich crash Busby Babes and exclusive pictures of Posh & Becks at the party to celebrate United’s 1999 treble!

Excerpt: David Phillips Jones more commonly known as ‘Ponty’ Jones (10 December 1881 9 January 1936) was a Welsh international rugby union wing player who played club rugby for several teams, most notably Pontypool and London Welsh. He won a single cap for Wales in 1907. Jones was a mining surveyor by profession, and was also a classically trained harpist. A keen sportsman, he also played soccer and once had a Welsh amateur trial. During the First World War he joined the British Army and served in the South Wales Borderers. He died of pneumonia in 1936. Jones was one of four rugby playing brothers; Jack and James were capped for Wales like David, while the youngest brother Edwin played for club team, Pontypool. As the brothers had the common surname of Jones, the brothers were separated by their nicknames. James was more often known as ‘Tuan’ and David as ‘Ponty’. Jones first played rugby for his home town of Pontymoile, before being selected for first-class rugby club, Newport. He played only 11 games for the Newport senior team before joining the newly reformed Pontypool club, making his debut for the club on 7 December 1901 in a match against Ebbw Vale RFC. Jones’ career at Pontypool was extremely succussful, becoming a leading scorer over several seasons including 172 tries over his entire career. Such was Jones’ scoring record, that the left wing corner pointing to Conway Road at Pontypool’s Recreation ground, was nicknamed ‘Ponty’s Corner’. In the 1904-05 season, Jones scored 49 tries, which included six in the same game against Talywain in April 1905; a club record that stood for 98 years. Jones was made captain of Pontypool for three consecutive seasons, from 1904 to 1907; and in 1907 he was awarded his one and only internat… More:

He is currently rumoured to be under investigation by the FAI due to the number of complaints received in season 2009 from supporters, managers and the media and may be been cited as a result. Buttimer regularly referees matches in the League of Ireland where he has been accused of being “the main attraction of the night” by Sligo Rovers manager Paul Cook. Buttimer was said to be “unsatisfied” with four colours provided by Dundalk – blue, black, yellow and grey all causing some unspecified problem or other. A Shelbourne director left the ground to search for an alternative kit in the local Lifestyle Sports, as managers John Gill and Dermot Keely told the referee they were on the verge of “going for a pint”. Soccer is much more than just the most popular game in the world. For millions, it is a matter of life and death, an international lingua franca. Simon Kuper traveled to twenty-two countries to discover the sometimes bizarre effect soccer can have on politics and culture. “Laurent Dubois mines the history of French soccer for fascinating theories and riveting stories. His understanding of the relationship between the game and politics is subtle, leading readers deep into important discussions about race and national identity. For those of us who admired the poetics of Les Bleus this is essential reading.”–Franklin Foer, author of How Soccer Explains the World”Laurent Dubois is historian, fan and graceful writer all in one. In soccer, he has found an innovative way to explore France and its empire. A serious book and an excellent read.”–Simon Kuper, author of Soccernomics”Beautifully lyrical and authoritative. We meet a host of players, colonized and colonizer, following them from their original playing fields–a vast lawn, a concrete lot–to their triumphs in national and international play.” –Alice Kaplan, author of The Interpreter”This book is a brilliant, beautifully written, and unique history of French colonialism and post-coloniality through the lens of football/soccer. Dubois weaves an eminently readable and engaging narrative that tracks tensions around race and national identity through the biographies of key football players and officials who became iconic of the aspirations of peripheral subjects of the French empire. More than a simple history of French football, the book amounts to a description of France’s imperial project and an incisive reflection on the race question in contemporary France. It will please both fans of the ‘beautiful game’ and those inclined to dismiss sports as but the opium of the masses.”–Paul Silverstein, author of Algeria in France: Transpolitics, Race and Nation

Soccer Stories: Anecdotes, Oddities, Lore, and Amazing Feats

$24.95

Arguably the world’s most popular sport, soccer has its own colorful lore, still little known in a nation only now beginning to give the game its due. This book offers the perfect opportunity to catch up on soccer’s rich history—and to discover some of the funniest, most ironic, outlandish, and tragic stories ever to come out of the world of sports. Taking readers as far afield as the Faeroe Islands, Thailand, Madagascar, Belarus, Bhutan, and the North Pole, the selections in Soccer Stories range from the strange (Brazilian players paid in cattle by their cash-strapped club) to the wild (the Mexican prison warden who threw open all the cell doors in celebration of a World Cup victory) to the comical (the referee who ejected himself). Here is the plane crash that wiped out the Italian team on the eve of its fifth straight national championship; the spiteful African club that scored 149 goals against itself in one game; and the youngster who banked a shot into the goal off a passing seagull. As lively as it is informative, Soccer Stories will engage fans of all levels.

 Sports Data Mining

Sports Data Mining

$139

Data mining is the process of extracting hidden patterns from data, and it’s commonly used in business, bioinformatics, counter-terrorism, and, increasingly, in professional sports. First popularized in Michael Lewis’ best-selling Moneyball: The Art of Winning An Unfair Game, it is has become an intrinsic part of all professional sports the world over, from baseball to cricket to soccer. While an industry has developed based on statistical analysis services for any given sport, or even for betting behavior analysis on these sports, no research-level book has considered the subject in any detail until now.Sports Data Mining brings together in one place the state of the art as it concerns an international array of sports: baseball, football, basketball, soccer, greyhound racing are all covered, and the authors (including Hsinchun Chen, one of the most esteemed and well-known experts in data mining in the world) present the latest research, developments, software available, and applications for each sport. They even examine the hidden patterns in gaming and wagering, along with the most common systems for wager analysis. A full draft TOC is attached. With combined (NFL; MLB; NBA; NHL) team values in the US running at more than $42 billion (NFL alone was at $33.3 billion in 2008!), and European soccer teams at over $10 billion, professional team sports worldwide is a massive business that is about to experience its first real contraction in over ten years. Combine that with the proven effectiveness — and growing use — of statistical analysis to produce winning teams (and thus higher revenues), and then consider the sharp growth in college programs in sports business: an eager market awaits this book in the sports business market alone. It will also appeal to researchers in data mining broadly; the sports statistics service industry that’s developed in the last ten years; and anyone studying any of the pari-mutuel

The gift was intended to build a memorial in honor of Kezar’s mother and uncles who were pioneers in the area. After the City and County of San Francisco appropriated an additional $200,000 the stadium was built in a year. Dedication ceremonies were held on May 2, 1925, and featured a two-mile footrace between Ville Ritola and Paavo Nurmi of Finland, who were two of the greatest runners of their day. The stadium had many uses in the 1930s. In addition to track and field competitions, Kezar Stadium also hosted motorcycle racing, auto racing, rugby, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, boxing, cricket and football. The stadium was also the home field of several local schools such as Santa Clara University, University of San Francisco, St. Mary’s College of California and the now defunct San Francisco Polytechnic High School. In 1926 the Stadium also became the home of the East-West Shrine Game. In the 1928 city championship game between San Francisco Polytechnic and Lowell High School a crowd of over 50,000 people saw the matchup between the bitter cross-town rivals. That game still holds attendance records for a high school football game in Northern California. Stanford University played four of its home football games at Kezar, one in 1928 and three in 1942. Kezar Stadium was also the home to two different professional football teams. The San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders both began their existence at the stadium. The Raiders played a… More:

The Boys from Little Mexico: A Season Chasing the American Dream

$0.99

For nineteen straight years, the all-Hispanic boys’ soccer team from Oregon’s Woodburn High has made the playoffs. As they prepare to make it twenty, one thing will become clear: Los Perros play the beautiful game with heart, pride, and their lives on the line. Their spirited drive gives a rare sense of hope and unity to a blue-collar farming community that has been transformed by waves of immigrants over recent decades, a town locals call “Little Mexico.” Watched over by a south Texas transplant—a surrogate father to half the squad—this band of brothers must learn to come together on the field and look after each other off it.   More than just riveting sports writing, The Boys from Little Mexico is about the fight for the future of the next generation—and a hard, true look at boys dismissed as gang-bangers, told to “go home” by lily-white sideline crowds. The wins and losses they notch along the way spin a striking tale about what it takes to capture the American Dream.

The Global Game: Writers on Soccer

The world’s most popular sport, soccer, is also one of the planet’s prevalent cultural expressions, celebrated and debated as an art form, observed with ritual and passion. Thus it has inspired literary efforts of every sort, from every corner of the globe, by women and men. The writings gathered in this volume reflect the universal and infinitely varied ways in which soccer connects with human experience. Poetry and prose from Ted Hughes, Charles Simic, Eduardo Galeano, Gunter Grass, Giovanna Pollarolo, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Elvis Costello—to name but a few—take us to a dizzying array of cultures and climes. From a patch of ground in Missoula, Montana, to a clearing in a Kosovo forest, from the stadiums of Burma and Iran to the northern lights over Greenland to remotest Sierra Leone, these writers show us soccer’s stars and fans, politics and rituals, as well as the game’s power to encourage resistance, inspire faith, and build community.
