If there’s one thing the world is focused on right now, it’s a soccer ball being kicked up and down a sprawling field in South Africa. Thanks to the World Cup, an event that has captured the hearts, minds and attention of millions of soccer (or as they say elsewhere, football) enthusiasts around the world, it’s safe to say people everywhere are currently gaga for the sport.
The excitement is reaching a fever pitch at the moment. Television commercials are gearing their messages around the month-long competition. Pubs and nightclubs are opening their doors in the wee hours of the morning to broadcast the games on their stunning flat screen televisions. And students are chatting about the latest matches during recess, bragging about how much they know about football players such as Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
If you have a child whose birthday is coming up, why not make it a special one by throwing a spectacular World Cup birthday bash? If your son or daughter can’t stop rattling off statistics or running to the television to watch the latest game, this is bound to be the shindig they’ll remember forever.
For starters, you’re going to need some amazing soccer invitations. These can be simple or crazy – it really depends on what your little one prefers.
A simple choice would be to adorn invitations with images of soccer balls and sprawling green fields. However, if you can find ones that have photos of Clint Dempsey or Tim Howard on them, all the better. The images of the American players will no doubt get a rise out of any potential guest and entice them to mark the date in their calendar immediately.
Next, make sure you plan out some World Cup decorations. Party planners can start off by finding scores of banners and streamers that have patriotic messages on them such as “Team USA!” or “Let’s go America!”
However, don’t be afraid to get a little crazy. For example, banners that have more exciting phrases, such as “In Your Face!” will certainly get a rise out of partygoers. And if you can uncover a life-sized poster of Landon Donovan, the USA Team captain, don’t hesitate to snag it up.
Finally, don’t forget about World Cup party extras. Try to stock up on soccer stickers and even trophies that can be given out to kids who win certain games. The little details are bound to be cherished and adored by the little ones.
Remember, the World Cup only comes around every four years, so it’s important to savor moments like these. The next time the event takes place, your soccer fan may be too old for such a party and instead will prefer to spend his or her birthday in the company of friends at the mall. Embrace these moments and work hard at turning your child’s birthday into an all-round unforgettable day.
