On way to coach youth soccer, all you need is to go through this article and get to know every single aspect of teaching the game. Coaching kids about soccer is no rocket science but yes, it requires skill, knowledge, and a lot of patience. To teach youth soccer, what follows are well-known tactics. Endorse knowledge: Each one of us is aware of it but how to find out the perfect way to encourage it? Allow the players to do activities that they like and even if they get wrong, take it easy. This way, you’ll not only allow the kids to enjoy themselves but also help them get imaginative.
Give every team a name: Make small teams from among the players for its convenient management. Along with that, name the teams to instill a sense of belongingness.
Evaluate failures and success: Define the standards against which the performance would be measured to coach youth soccer. Take for example a study that reveals how much fun the kids are having during the sessions. Are the kids enjoying soccer or playing as a team? Are the kids finding it easy to grasp the tricks of dribbling, managing the ball, and controlling it?
Give rewards: Rewards encourage the new as well as skilled players in the same way. And the rewards can be fairly simple. For instance awarding the winner team with an hour’s additional break or leaving early for the day. And don’t reward individual feats. They do not work in soccer as some kids will always excel whereas others won’t. Substitute it with rewarding team’s hard work.
Managing poor performance: It’s important in teaching soccer to carefully manage individual’s poor performance affecting the entire team. For example, if a player is always late for the drills, do not ignore it. Reprimand him with any easy punishment to send a message to the remaining players.
Similarly, parents who tend to interfere in the team’s activities should also be handled like this. Make everyone understand in order to avoid it. As a coach, be responsible to make decisions for the team. But, involvement of parents to a certain level is also important.
Lead the team: It is expected from the players to emulate you in anything you do as they see you as their ultimate guide. So keep your conduct in check. Your behavior should be pleasant and respectful towards the players, colleagues, and opposite teams as well. Arrive at the field for the training sessions before the players reach. Do not disapprove of the players or the referee anytime during the practice matches.
