Soccer Teams

5 Simple Steps To Coach Youth Soccer
Do you have any idea how tough it looks to coach youth soccer team? Actually it is not, if you have the right attitude, flair to deal with the kids, and some handy tips.
It’s best to initiate with the basics. During this stage, the kids are offered with the opportunity to enjoy thoroughly, thereby developing a professional attitude. Also, getting familiar with the fundamentals of soccer will make them confident and get accustomed to the essentials of the sport.
In an effort to teach youth soccer, don’t do anything to begin with. Let the kids’ act the way they want and observe them keenly. Don’t make huge efforts to systematize things or train too much. This allows kids to have a lot of fun which is vital to the game.
Provide short and accurate feedbacks on which the kids can act instantly. But make sure these feedbacks are given after and not through the session. Remember that they are just kids and so it is important to communicate with them in their language.
Parents are more involved in their kid’s improvement. That’s why, it’s great to engage them form the beginning. This way you’ll be sure that kids remain interested in the sport even when away from the field. Take care of the fact that their doubts are heard and addressed properly.
Make sure that all channels of communication are used. For example: personal meetings, email, and telephone are adequate and efficient methods of communication. But be cautious of the fact that kids are not instructed by you or their parents on the field. Moreover, negative comments, if any should always be shared when the young players are all alone.
It is very important to coach youth soccer by staying in touch with the fellow instructors. It provides an opportunity for the trainers to interact effectively as all of them have a lot of exclusive and important experiences to share.
Set up and arrange the drills in advance. As such, it expects that you sort out every single detail before hand. At times, the coaches adopt a plain approach because of the feeling that they are managing the kids. But it’s wrong. In youth soccer also, proficiency and politeness have the same relevance similar to that in professional soccer.
Engage the kids in drills that train them the basics and are also a whole lot of fun. It is also a good idea to plan pleasure trips and small picnics with them. Allow them to interact with each other and share their different views. This develops a sense of team spirit and camaraderie between them.
When teaching soccer, help the kids understand the value of regulation in soccer. It is vital that they understand in the beginning itself about the good practices in soccer.
To conclude, teach the kids soccer in a way that enhances their interest in the game. These tips can be applied in training your team to get remarkable results.

A Game For All Seasons $17.99 The night air was crisp, even at the 72 degrees that enveloped the 2000 fans that sat and watched as the Westland Dragons took on the Dallas Sting for the U-21 Women’s National Soccer Championship at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Field. Both teams had battled to a 1-1 tie over 90 minutes, and now both were coming to the end of the second 15-minute overtime tied at one goal apiece. A shoot-out was inevitable, and how ironic I thought. This is how it all began for this team; this is what set this team apart from others when they were only 12 years old back in the fall of 1994. The whistle of the center official sounded and I knew what lie in store for our girls. They had been here before; they had all been through so much. Ashleigh, Jessie and Kendall were all on the bench due to injuries, and our back-up keeper, Christa, was asking me why she had to do this. I knew this time was different, this time it was for so much more than a trophy or a title. This time it was for all the games, all the seasons and all the players that had come and gone. This was going to be a game of a lifetime – this was their game for all seasons. The Lady Dragons were born on July 7th, 1994, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a warm night, and the heat of the day had parched the already dry field to a golden brown, with spots of green, as 45 young 12 year old girls showed up in mass to a tryout for the “New Premier team” about to be formed. Forty-five young girls all with the same dream: to someday play Women’s Major League Soccer. But now, it was a much smaller dream that lie ahead, they were all very sure that they would be the one, the one out of 45 that would catch the Coach’s eye and be chosen to be part of the 18 player roster. |

African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World’s Game $16.95 From Accra and Algiers to Zanzibar and Zululand, Africans have wrested control of soccer from the hands of Europeans, and through the rise of different playing styles, the rich rituals of spectatorship, and the presence of magicians and healers, have turned soccer into a distinctively African activity. African Soccerscapes explores how Africans adopted soccer for their own reasons and on their own terms. The Confédération Africaine de Football democratized the global game through antiapartheid sanctions and increased the number of African teams in the World Cup finals. The unfortunate results of this success are the departure of huge numbers of players to overseas clubs and the influence of private commercial interests on the African game. But the growth of the women’s game and South Africa’s hosting of the 2010 World Cup also challenge the one-dimensional notion of Africa as a backward, “tribal” continent populated by victims of war, corruption, famine, and disease. |

Not illustrated. Excerpt: Aurora Basket Jesi, also known for sponsorship reasons as Fileni Jesi is an Italian professional basketball team from the town of Jesi. In that far 1965, Gianni Rossetti (a RAI – National TV Network – journalist), Carlo Barchiesi (current president) and Primo Novelli (who used to be in charge of the junior teams) who set up Aurora Basket couldnt foresee such a successful future for their new born team. It was in those years that Springoil, the most important basketball team of the city at that time, was very close to move up to the A League (the highest division of Italian professional basketball), but it wound up due to economical problems. (This team was set up by Ottorino Apolloni and since he died, a pre-season game is held in his memory every year). Hence immediately there was the need to re-launch basketball in Jesi. The first step was taken by Roberto Vigo. Also Roberto Mancini, one of the most popular soccer players in Italy, used to play in the ground of his parish when he was a child. Roberto Vigo proposed to Gianni Rossetti to set up a basketball team inside the Aurora Group. This way Aurora Basket was officially set up by the managers Rossetti, Barchiesi and Novelli together with President Mario Gherardi. The first season 1965/1966 was in the first Regional division and the team moved up only three years later. The team experienced a slow growth in the first years, but then it started to grow gradually when other new managers and the first sponsors joined the team and when the junior teams were started. At the same time, the senior team became more and more successful and only after 10 years Aurora moved up to an important national division (called D division) in the 1973/74 season. Since then the team has alway… More: |

Behind the Curtain: Travels in Eastern Europe Football $18.95 From the war-ravaged streets of Sarajevo, where turning up for training involved dodging snipers’ bullets, to the crumbling splendor of Budapest’s Bozsik Stadium, where the likes of Puskas and Kocsis masterminded the fall of England, the landscape of Eastern Europe has changed immeasurably since the fall of communism. Jonathan Wilson has traveled extensively behind the old Iron Curtain, viewing life beyond the fall of the Berlin Wall through the lens of soccer. Where once the state-controlled teams of the Eastern bloc passed their way with crisp efficiency—a sort of communist version of total soccer—to considerable success on the European and international stages, today the beautiful game in the East has been opened up to the free market, and throughout the region a sense of chaos pervades. The threat of totalitarian interference no longer remains; but in its place mafia control is generally accompanied with a crippling lack of funds. Jonathan Wilson goes in search of the spirit of Hungary’s Golden Squad of the early 1950s; charts the disintegration of the soccer superpower that was the former Yugoslavia; follows a sorry tale of corruption, mismanagement, and Armenian cognac through the Caucasuses; reopens the case of Russia’s greatest soccer player, Eduard Streltsov; and talks to Jan Tomaszewski about an autumn night at Wembley in 1973. |

Biases and heuristics in team member selection decisions. $69 Although team composition as an antecedent to team performance has been studied extensively, team composition as a dependent variable has been relatively neglected. Recent studies on team member selection assume that a group or an organization is conducting the process and propose elaborate models that include numerous factors along two dimensions: taskwork and teamwork. However, when individual decision makers are forming teams, they adopt a simpler heuristic approach that is based on their relational ties to potential team members. The extent of this relational bias, i.e., the proportion of the team to which they have prior relational ties, is explored in this dissertation.;In cases where the decision maker was the team leader, the relational bias was 50% for top-flight professional soccer players choosing their ideal teammates, and 34% for National Football League (NFL) head coaches choosing their coaching staff members. Even in cases where the decision maker was only the selector and not the team leader, the relational bias in the soccer player dataset was 31%. Whether the decision maker was a leader or only a selector was a statistically significant predictor of relational bias. These findings not only support the traditional leadership theories that the leader-member relationship is a central dimension of leadership, but also suggest that relational ties might be important even at the team formation stage.;The NFL head coaches dataset provides evidence that team leaders’ role interdependence is a statistically significant predictor of relational bias not only to the team as a whole, but also to the part of the team structure on which the leaders are more dependent (termed backing-up subunit ).;Content analysis of soccer players’ reports of their selections indicates that taskwork-related rationales were primary (58.2% of the total), followed by tie-related rationales (23%) and teamwork-related rationales (18.8%). Further, team spirit, a subcategory of |

Crofton, Maryland (Images of America Series) $10 Established in 1964 as a planned community, Crofton’s almost 2,000 acres have been colonized and cultivated since the mid-17th century. Its roots can be traced to America’s first planned community–Williamsburg, Virginia. Williamsburg’s elegance and charm inspired developer W. Hamilton Crawford’s idyllic design for Crofton: a grand boulevard, curving residential streets, arching trees, a country club, and easy access to nearby Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. This collection of photographs from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century reflects the life and times of the maturing village of Crofton. Fields of tobacco and corn, towering woodlands, cherry tree saplings along Crofton Parkway, the dedication of Crofton Park, summer Little League camp–Images of America: Crofton is a compendium of dreams fulfilled. Independence Day parades; fairs; bicycle races; pumpkin-design competitions; softball, soccer, and basketball teams; and summer concerts on the Green are all here. While historians record the facts, artists and cameras capture the small moments as well as the grand events. Those moments, large and small, are what readers will find between these covers. |

In 1999 the club was officially merged with local rivals Yokohama Marinos and the two teams became known together as Yokohama F. Marinos. The club was originally the company team of All Nippon Airways and played in the Japan Soccer League, before it became a professional club and joined the J. League. Despite being relegated at the first attempt in 1985, they bounced back up again in 1987 and would never leave the top flight until their demise. The club’s name springs from the German word Flügel, meaning wing or wings (“Flügels” is an anglicised plural, where the original German word has only one form which can both represent singular and plural). The name points to the club’s former sponsor. For a time it was billed as AS Flügels, with the initials of both sponsors, ANA and Sato Labs, forming an initialism that resembled the Italian initials for “Sporting Association” (Associazione Sportiva). Despite never winning either the JSL or J. League title, they were top contenders from the late 1980s through its last game, and won several accolades at home and abroad, including the Emperor’s Cup, the Asian Cup Winners Cup and the Asian Super Cup. In 1998, Sato Labs announced that it was pulling its financial support of the club. However, instead of simply dissolving the club or finding another investor, ANA, the team’s other chief |

Emancipation through Muscles $34.95 Although the study of Jewish identity has generated a growing body of work, the topic of sport has received scant attention in Jewish historiography. Emancipation through Muscles redresses this balance by analyzing the pertinence of sports to such issues as race, ethnicity, and gender in Jewish history and by examining the role of modern sport within European Jewry. The accomplishments of Jews in the intellectual arena and their notable presence among Nobel Prize recipients have often overshadowed their achievements in sports. The pursuit of sports among Jews in Europe was never a marginal phenomenon, however. In the first third of the twentieth century numerous Jewish sport organizations were founded throughout Europe, and prowess in the realm called “muscle Jewry” by the Zionists was a symbol of widespread pride among European Jews. Some Jewish teams were remarkably successful: the legendary Austrian soccer champion Hakoah Vienna was arguably the most visible Jewish presence in interwar Vienna, and many readers will be surprised to learn that outstanding soccer teams such as Ajax Amsterdam and Tottenham Hotspur are still considered “Jewish teams.”The contributors to this volume, an international group of scholars from a variety of fields, explore the diverse relationships between Jews and modern sports in Europe. |

Football and Fascism: The National Game under Mussolini $37.95 This is a cultural history of Italian Fascism viewed through the lens of soccer. The 1930s were the zenith of achievement for Italian football—Italy hosted and won the 1934 World Cup and retained the trophy in 1938. At club level, Calcio was reorganized into a national league, after which the first Italian club teams emerged to dominate European competition. It was at this time that Mussolini’s party institutionalized soccer as a fascist game. Italian Fascism fully exploited the opportunities football provided to shape public opinion, penetrate daily life, and reinforce conformity. By politicizing the game, Fascism also sought to enhance the regime’s international prestige and inculcate nationalist values. Football and Fascism is an original look at the appropriation of sport to serve political ends during a dark period of Italian history. |

Genetic Programming Based Team Learning In Robotic Soccer $92.99 Genetic Programming(GP) is a technique to automatically evolve programs to perform some required task. The technique comes from the Darwinian theory, the biological evolution of the individuals and the survival of the fittest. The aim of the book is to investigate the use of Genetic Programming for team learning in Robotic Soccer. Robotic Soccer is a test bed for AI research, promoted by the RoboCup community. This book addresses the team learning, one of the important challenges in RoboCup. The team learning is of three categories: homogeneous, heterogeneous and hybrid. This book explores the performance of the GP produced teams in the above mentioned team learning categories. Nowadays swarm intelligence is being adopted for problem solving in various domains and found to produce effective results. Hence the low level social insect behaviours are incorporated into player strategies of Robotic Soccer to achieve better team performance. The cooperation and coordination between the players are improved through the above mentioned approach. The impact of GP control parameters are analysed in the team learning categories to evolve better soccer player strategies. |

Golden and Blue Like My Heart: Masculinity, Youth, and Power among Soccer Fans in Mexico City $45 For fans of pro soccer in Mexico City, the four most popular teams represent distinct identities that embody such attributes as political power, nationalism, and working-class values. One of these teams, the Pumas, is associated with youthfulness, and its equally youthful fans take pride in the fact that their heroes have not yet been corrupted by corporate or political interests. This ethnographic study examines Puma fans’ understanding of the ideal that the team represents, considers the practices they employ to express and sometimes contradict this ideal, and reveals how soccer fandom in contemporary Mexico has emerged as a nexus of tensions among competing visions of state and society.Roger Magazine takes readers inside Mexico’s soccer stadiums to explore young men’s participation in struggles over the future of that country’s urban society. His firsthand observations of the fan clubs—las porras—yield a unique inside look at confrontations in the stands over group organization, particularly at the emergence of rebel segments within the clubs. His study offers a close-up look at ground-level struggles over social organization in contemporary urban Mexico, showing how young male fans both blindly reproduce and consciously manipulate images of violence and disorder derived from national myths about typical urban Mexican men.Golden and Blue Like My Heart offers a new way of understanding the dynamics of fandom while shedding new light on larger social processes and youth culture in Mexico. And with its insight into soccer culture, politico-economic transition, and masculinity, it has important and wide-reaching implications for all of Latin America. |

Excerpt: The 2006 Italian football scandal (Italian: Calciopoli, Farsopoli or Moggiopoli , sometimes referred to as Calciocaos) involved Italy’s top professional football leagues, Serie A and Serie B. The scandal was uncovered in May 2006 by Italian police, implicating league champions Juventus, and other major teams including, Internazionale Milan, Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio, and Reggina when a number of telephone interceptions showed a thick network of relations between team managers and referee organisations. Juventus were the champions of Serie A at the time. The teams have been accused of rigging games by selecting favourable referees. The scandal first came to light as a consequence of investigations of Naples prosecutors on the Italian football agency GEA World. Transcripts of recorded telephone conversations published in Italian newspapers suggested that during the 2004-05 season, Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi had conversations with several officials of Italian football to influence referee appointment. The name Calciopoli is a pun on Tangentopoli, , a corruption-based attitude starting in the early 80s and ending with the Mani Pulite investigation in the early 90s. Another very common name for Calciopoli is Moggiopoli after the name of Luciano Moggi. Also Calciogate, a pun on Watergate, is used. “Calcio” means football in Italian. On 4 July 2006, the Italian Football Federation’s prosecutor, Stefano Palazzi, called for all four clubs at the centre of the match-fixing scandal to be thrown out of Serie A. Palazzi called for Juventus to drop to at least Serie C1 (his statement read that Juventus should be sent “lower than Serie B”, without a specific division stated) and for Fiorentina and Lazio to at least Serie B. He also asked for poi… More: |
