Brendan Hallab: Soccer Star of the Future

Brendan Hallab is a registered player of Australian football player and a student at Westfields Sports High School. We want to let you know what is a typical week for this talented 14-year-old defender and his family.

Brendan began his high school years at Westfields Sports High School in year 7 (2007).

Westfields Sports High has a good reputation for the production of some major sports stars, in particular, Harry Kewell, Brett Emerton, Danny Vukovic and Mark Bridge, to name a few.

So what is it like to actually go to school with such a reputation? Let's look at a typical week at Brendan's school and football life.

Brendan School starts at 8:48 and end at 03.10 clock (normal school hours)

There are two intensive tests per year, one at the beginning of the year and the other end of the year. These tests include such things as sprints, beep test, etc., and a football boysreceive evaluation result in accordance with their training and testing Results show areas that need attention.

Monday: Brendan has to work his normal school day and also trains for 1.45 hours. He also plays his youth Premier League with Blacktown City Demons under coach Leo Carle. Monday night he also trains for over 2 hours with his team.

Tuesday: Brendan trains 1.45 hours before the school Westfields Sports High.

Wednesday: Brendan trains 1 hour before school and makes additional work on the bars and after school he trained with his Premier Youth team for over 2 hours.

Thursday: Brendan Trains 1.45 hours before the school and into the night.

Friday: Brendan trains for 1 hour in the pool as part of its own Regime after school at Homebush Aquatic Centre has up and down at night.

Saturday is game day for the Blacktown City's Demon defenders.

This is a dedicated 14-year-old! Now you know his schedule. We asked Brendan and his parents some questions in the to have minds of future professional football players and their parents.

How important is education to you Brendan? When I'm older I now know that education is very important. It would be great to play football at the highest level and paid a lot of money, but now I understand that I try, my school with my football commitments have balance.

Mum & Dad? As far as my wife Karen and I are concerned about education must preside about sports. I can tell you it was atough call Brendan at Westfield 'sport was included as part of the football program. Brendan's school is always with the Catholic Education system. Karen and I helped Brendan's decision on the condition that his academic performance would not participate (as he smashed that theory Reach dux last year), with whom he completed his secondary education in Westfield's Sports continues its dreamand passionthroughthe right way to follow an elite footballer. Having played Rugby League elite, even at a high level, I could empathize with Brendan'sgoals and to see him go from a sheep trailer in less than 5 years (laughs) on the development throughthe ranks with a lot of hard work and his selectedin most ofall the development paths available, I for my part, could the passion in his Eyes. He is as extravagant as most of the emergency operation buthis commitment, dedication, commitment, work ethic and brains in the paddock is second to none.

Best part is going to school and visited many Socceroos Harry Kewell? It feels really good to know that people like Kewell, Emmert and many others in a variety of different sports have been school that I met, and their dreams witha lot of hard work.I hope to do the same.

Brendan's father Fred is a retired police officer civil servant and his mother Karen must be the busiest, most organized super mom. Brendan has a brother Luke at the age of 11 and a sister Emma at the age of 7, all sports nuts!

As parents, of course, take him to all the above, how much time / effort is Undoubtedly, it is necessary would be extremely difficult and in any case without Karenit – be almost impossible. Karen and I have to communicate on a daily basis logistically , Will coordinate the who and what time he / she have somewhere! We as parents whetherit totally committed to our children's activities at the highest level or not. Combining training developed with the intelligent sports athletes.

What is Brendan's primary objective (s)? I hope that make it overseas as a professional footballer and playing around with some of the best players. I also want to a good school results just in case I do get do not and I will have something to fall back. I will keep training hard and working on my weaknesses and my dream somedaymaybeI mightachieve.

Favorite player? Favorite team? Favorite food? Favorite TV show? My favorite football player that I like to see because of my position would be John Terry or Rio Ferdinand. But Ialso enjoy watching Cristiano Ronaldo with his explosiveness and quick feet to beat opponents. My favorite team is Manchester United. My favorite food is chicken cutlet. My favorite TV show is Simpson.

Brendan is also to China with Westfields Sports High School as part of his training for other cultures and of course to play football.

Ally McCoist: Portrait of a Hero

Ally McCoist: Portrait of a Hero

$15.95

A schoolboy prodigy, it was always clear that McCoist was destined for top flight soccer. At just 16 he signed his first professional contract with St. Johnstone, shooting to prominence in the 1980/81 season, scoring 22 league goals and playing a starrring role for the Scottish youth team. He was soon hot property. After two years of mixed fortunes at Sunderland, McCoist returned to Scotland and signed for his boyhood heroes Glasgow Rangers. Over the next 15 years, he established himself as arguably the greatest goal-scorer ever to play for the club. He not only gave heart and soul for Rangers but was also capped 61 times for Scotland. This authoritative and affectionate portrait of this much-loved sportsman charts the highs and lows of a fascinating career, culminating in McCoist reaching legendary status. It also looks at the events that helped to shape his life—overcoming homesickness when first playing for an English club, the effects his parents’ separation had on him, and how he coped when his young son had to undergo several life-saving operations. Having hung up his books, Ally’s vibrant personality made him a natural for the television screen. Now, however, he has come full circle and returned “home” to be assistant manager at his beloved Rangers. This wonderful book is a must-read for any soccer fan or indeed for anyone captivated by this larger-than-life character.

Granada Hills, California (Images of America Series)

$14.15

The modern history of Granada Hills began in 1913 with the completion of the Los Angeles aqueduct and the arrival of abundant freshwater to the former land of Mission San Fernando. Citrus orchardsflourished on the Sunshine Ranch, acreage originally cultivated by former senator George K. Porter. In 1926, the community of Granada was formed as a rabbit-raising colony, promising residents country living and economic prosperity. Granada added “Hills” to its name in 1942 to avoid confusion with a similarly named Northern California town, andthanks to the postwar baby boom, the population grew by 1,000 percent between 1950 and 1960. The community soon earned a reputation as “The San Fernando Valley’s Most Neighborly Town” as residents came together to celebrate the hometown team’s 1963 Little League World Series victory and the formation of the nation’s first all-girl American Youth Soccer Organization league, and as neighbor helped neighborafter the devastating 1971 and 1994 earthquakes.

Growing up in America, Awista Ayub had few real memories of Afghanistan, which her family had fled in 1979, when she was just two years old. After the fall of the Taliban, however, she felt called back to the homeland she barely knew. When young Ayub arrived, she did what she did best: She applied her talent for organized sports to founding a soccer league. The Afghan Youth Sports Exchange began with eight brave young women but has since expanded to 15 teams. Battling uphill against local bias against female athletics, the Sports Exchange developed not just passing and kicking skills but also teamwork, self-confidence, and feelings of self-worth. Ayub’s autobiographical However Tall the Mountain tells the story of a peaceful revolution in a land of continuing strife.

It is best known for being the second oldest sports league to form, behind Major League Baseball in 1876, as well as being the oldest soccer league in the United States . The Association was formed in 1884 in an attempt to standardize rules and procedures. It was allied with The Football Association , becoming a member on February 22, 1909 at an FA meeting chaired by John Charles Clegg , and drew on that organization’s approach to the game. As part of its efforts, the AFA directly organized both league and cup competitions as well as overseeing the operations of member leagues. The weakness of the AFA lay in its refusal to expand outside of the southern New England region. When a movement began to create a national governing body in 1911, the AFA found itself confronting the newly established American Amateur Football Association (AAFA), a body which quickly became
